For those who say they see no ads, have you visited the ATMB forum? It’s apparently from whence they spawn.
Never mind. I just now had 5 threads open, all ad-free when I watched the page re-arrange itself and an ad slide into place. :mad: :mad: :mad:
I haven’t been there in about an hour, but the banner ads just appeared in my browser.
Ironically, actually doing what one of the banner ads asks you to do would ELIMINATE them from your sight! 
(That IS ironic, isn’t it? Please tell me it is.)
(Strange… I just clicked on the “colon-D” smiley in the right hand box. Instead of putting it in, the page just scrolled to the top.)
Speaking of scrolling to the top, for some reason, maybe by positioning of my browser, I never even saw the banner ads until they were pointed out to me by this thread.
Browser: Firefox. Banners: Seen (not heard) until I installed Adblock Plus. After installation, no ads, but the gap where they’d be was still there and the pages still took longer to load than before banner ads.
Closed browser, opened it later. Banner space gone now, pages loading at their usual erratic pace.
Another Doper who’s not minded, much, the downsides of this place till now, but found the banners sufficiently jarring to reconsider continuing membership here.
“A decision was made…” Gotta love that passive voice. I asked for a clarification on just WHO made that decision – maybe we’ll get a more appropriate place to forward our concerns to.
Wow. This once hallowed place has sunk into the bowels of the web one bitch-slap at a time until now it’s flashing lights and screaming whistles. What’s next, spyware?
I right-clicked on the ad. It’s Flash, maybe thats why some of you aren’t seeing them.
This is a pretty jerkish development.
Thankfully, I’m using Flashblock (for Firefox) so I haven’t been subjected to the obnoxious ads with voices/music/sounds. If they get around that somehow, though… (Note: that’s not an invitation!)

They just now showed up for me too. And although I have spoken out upon occasion about there being no necessity for the the moderators or administrators to reply to honest queries with rudeness, I have no additional problem saying that this may be what puts me off the board as well. Unfortunately, I’m still paid up a bit, so I couldn’t vote with my wallet yet, but I can’t imagine how this is a good thing. It certainly seems that those who’d been decrying the downfall of the Dope weren’t so terribly wrong. In one way or another, it’s gonna get killed-ed in the end, at this rate.

I get 'em now. I had tunes going and wondered what was fucking causing the distortion. Kick me in the nuts, those are the absolute SHITTIEST banner ads I’ve ever seen in all my web surfing.
I surf a lot, I see lots of banners. These are SHIT.
But who gives a fuck what I think, I can just hit the road.
More and more I’m convinced that TPTB are engaged in passive-aggressive warfare against the board. Rather than just shutting the board down, more and more retarded measures are put into place, perhaps to squeeze whatever traces of money they can get out of it while simultaneously driving away the majority of posters. When the membership finally dwindles to a few posts a day, then and only then will they put the board out of its misery.
Now where’s that tinfoil?
