I’d be fine if discobot had to follow the same rules as every regular poster. That is, being a jerk to discobot would be prohibited. But, discobot could be muted by posters.
I don’t think that is possible. I believe the choice is between disabling it entirely and not.
I’ll admit, I enjoy some of the jokes Dopers make with Discobot (all though I imagine they’ll soon become tired or overused, like “Hi, Opal”). But what is Discobot actually for? What is it supposed to do?
Target for the slings and arrows of our discontent.
Outrageous!
Discobot functions as the site’s “greeter” in place of a welcome message for new users, and provides some tutorials for the Discourse software that we use. You can send test PMs to Discobot to try out the messaging system, for example.
It also has a few “fun” features like die rolls, quotes, and fortunes.
Despite the fact that Discobot very rarely shows up anywhere outside of threads complaining about Discobot, a tiny percentage of our users find it to be extremely annoying. Most users either have a bit of fun with it as intended, or find it only mildly annoying and easily ignored (mentally, you can’t actually put it on ignore).
I knocked him down to Trust Level 2. Those of you who are hypersensitive to him, let me know if this allows you to put him on ignore.
Discobot, do you dream of electric sheep?
@discobot fortune
My sources say no
Nope. Thanks for making the effort, though.
Horror! Horror!
Supreme discobot, forgive us. We did all that could be done by human efforts!
Ask again later
“Sorry, you can’t ignore that user.”
guess not.
Illegitimi non totem carborendorum, Discobot!
Does anyone else hear that?

If you aren’t going all the way, why go at all? — Joe Namath
Oh, horror, oh dread, he speaks without being beckoned!
Have mercy on us, splendid discobot! Do not cast us down forever into the vbulletin software, but accept us into your discourse that we might serve you until at least the next election.
Maybe it gained sentience after being demoted.
