Barbershop - yet another triumph of political correctness

How about Spielberg editing the re-release of ET to change the police officers’ pistols to radios?

I believe they also cut out a few lines that were apparently ok when the movie was first release but are now too risque for kids.

You are right, and I stand corrected. I could have sworn I had that in my DVD collection…time for some gingko biloba.

And it was “hand”, since the first lines of the song go:

  • Oh, I come from a land,
    Irom a faraway place
    Where the caravan caverns roam
Where they cut off your hand
If they don’t like your face…*

“Hand” rhymes with “sand”, but “ear” doesn’t.

An update! MGM shows some balls. Maybe there is hope for humanity after all.

Cool, i hope Cedric tears Jesse a new one in Barbershop 2: Electric Boogaloo

Maybe Jesse should spend some time with the Taliban and see how he likes it. I thought the movie was VERY funny!

(Ok, it’s an aside from the OP but…)

Grrr… Lucas. :frowning:

Han was defending himself anyway. Greedo had a drawn weapon and had made his intentions perfectly clear; Han wasn’t getting out of that bar alive.

I have here, right in my grimy mitt, the Aladdin Original Motion Picture Soundtrack(obviously released right before the lyric change).

In the song, and more importantly in the lyrics printed in the booklet that came with the CD, it says:

…Where they cut off your ear
If they don’t like your face…
©1992 Walt Disney Music Company (ASCAP)/
Wonderland Music Company, Inc. (BMI)

So there you have it, indisputable proof.
-Rue. (good for something today)

And “caverns” don’t roam either. It’s “camels”.

And as Rue said, it’s ear. place rhymes with face, roam ryhmes with home. (in the next line) Simple ABAB rhyming scheme.

And it has nothing to do with hands. They cut off your ear because they don’t like your face, not because you steal. (nothign about stealing in the lyrics at all, so hand make no sense.)

This gets better. I haven’t seen the movie, but I heard that same character also says “Screw Jesse Jackson” or something similar. This, of course, has nothing to do with Jackson’s objections.
