Hmmm. There’s also the possibility that maybe it’s just a really good movie. Greta Gerwig’s knows stuff and so does Margot Robbie and her company. The wife and I have our tickets for tomorrow night.
I thought Ken looked like what Johnny Lawrence would have looked like as an adult if he had won the All Valley tournament. Ryan Gossling would be a great choice to play Billy Zabka if they ever make a movie about his life story.
Hardly! I see what you did there, but I saw Barbie tonight, and it was enjoyable but not particularly deep or moving. Barbie has started off well, but I think Oppenheimer is the one to watch over the long haul. It’s like the sprint vs. the marathon.
Definitely not. (Said the father of daughters) The various animated films and series have also helped keep her a going concern, despite the challenges from Bratz and Monster High.
As for “Barbenheimer”, I have absolutely zero interest in seeing yet another Great White Man biopic, but I’ll definitely be seeing Barbie.
Same here (on both counts). My oldest daughter is in her mid-teens so past that phase, but my youngest loves Barbies and dolls in general.
(For the record, I also got her into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and comic books, and I am definitely not steering her toward dolls, but I don’t discourage it either. She can like what she likes.)
I have not seen this film yet. My wife and daughter did, and loved it. I am very interested but don’t need to see it in a theater.
I saw the movie (Barbie) earlier tonight and thought it was great. Not in awe great but it was very well done and fun to watch the whole way through. I was really wondering how such a movie could possibly be done well but Gerwig and Robbie and the rest who worked with them to pull this off did a great job. Well worth a watch.
What’s more, it is an easy movie to watch. I have not seen ‘Oppenheimer’ yet (and I want to) but that is a 3-hour biopic which will take effort from the audience to watch. ‘Barbie’ is just easy fun while still being very well done.
Also, one of the best fourth wall breaks I have seen in a long time.
I was impressed as well, and much of it seems to have stayed with me after leaving the theatre. The whole “beach you off” conversation was killer! And also impressive that the three main male characters, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu and Michael Cera, are all Canadian boys. Makes me proud! Sure it’s about female empowerment, but it has something to say about male issues as well. Though I think maybe obsession with horses would be more accurately depicted by obsession with trucks.
