A friend and I will be spending the New Year in Barcelona, courtesy of RyanAir
Unfortunately the plans we had for accomodation haven’t worked out
So, do any Dopers have any suggestions or recommendations of places we can try? We’ve tried searching on google but not much success – available places are too pricey and this was meant to be a bargin trip. My friend is good enough at Spanish to handle a website written in Spanish.
Aside from accommodation, any other recommendations for eating, drinking, and being merry?
You might find something at Eurocheapo.
In Barcelona, what I enjoyed most was the Gaudi architecture, specifically La Sagrada Familia.
If I were to go back, one thing I would do is visit a cava (champagne) winery.
Cordorniu is outside of Barcelona in Sant Sadruni D’Noia.
I was there in September and I found the Tryp Apolo on www.ratestogo.com
It was very handy as the underground had a station which was practically in the hotel lobby!!
(Slight exaggeration!)
I was there for 5 days and didn’t see half of it, depsite my best efforts and so I’d be loathe to tell you on here what the best bits were in case you missed out something else.
You know Ryanair fly into Girona, rather than El Prat, don’t you, and it’s a bit of a journey into the city?
But that’s the Ryanair shuffle and we’ve all come to expect that.
When a friend of mine and I went there two years ago we arrived by train at around 9:00 pm. Walked around the city for maybe 45 minutes (looks a whole lot like Houston) and we got to a gas station. My friend speaks spanish so he went up to a cab driver that was filling up and asked him of a good hotel. MAN! The driver took us to maybe the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. And it was only a *** hotel. Right off La Rambla, near the farmers market. Fairly new, or just renovated. And it was really not that expensive. Something like $60 a night between the two of us!! Highly recommended that you try something like this, if you speak spanish. Cab drivers know EVERYTHING!
