Barclay's the Bank

I know that Barclay’s was founded around 1690 in London, but I can’t figure out when they created their division Barclay’s Capital. Any ideas?

Barclays’ investment-banking arm was called Barclays de Zoete Wedd (usually shortened to BZW) when it was formed. The bank couldn’t cut it in the equities business and sold that part of the investment-banking unit in pieces in the late 1990s. When the sales were done, Barclays renamed the bond and currency activities that it kept as Barclays Capital.
