Barenaked Ladies: Who is Dr. Lendy?

In the Barenaked Ladies song “Brian Wilson”, there’s a verse that goes

It’s a matter of instinct, it’s a matter of conditioning,
it’s a matter of fact.

Ring a bell and I’ll salivate. How’d you like that?
Dr. Lendy tell me you’re not just a pedagogue.

Does anybody know who Dr. Lendy is? I’ve tried Googling it, but just about all of the results are the song lyrics. There are also a few results about a Dr. Lendy Kasanda of Zambia, but I’m pretty sure the song’s not referring to him!

It’s actually “Dr. Landy”…you were on the right track, just got the spelling wrong. Dr. Eugene Landy was Brian Wilson’s “psychologist,” a man who apparently did little for him other than perscribe him psychotropic drugs and bleed his bank account dry. Sad story, recounted here.

For the record,

the “Psychology’s Abuse of Power” article is hosted on the CCHR website, which is run by Scientology, but Scientology organization downplays the connection for whatever reason.
