Barney Miller Credits Shot

When I was a child, my family used to watch “Barney Miller.” Occassionally, my father would point out the World Trade Center in the Title Sequence shot. “Look,” he’d say, “there’s the World Trade Center (He moved up in the 60s).” I caught the end of a re-run on cable the other night, and the WTC was absent from the closing sequence. Also, there seemed to be, to the left of the center of the image, a large building that didn’t look like it belonged in the photograph, in a Bad Photoshop/Reviewing Stand, 1933 Moscow Mayday Parade, sort of way. Was this shot altered to avoid offending the viewers? I’m sure I’m remembering the shot correctly.

Sometime in October 2001, TV Land had a sort of “New York Appreciation Marathon”–a weekend dedicated to shows set in New York City. There were several Barney Miller episodes; all of them had the Twin Towers in the opening credits, but not in the closing credits.

i thought they were only in the opening credits. really a nice shot of them, as well.

(and a wicked bass line!)
