Baroque Music !

So: what are the must have/must heard masterpieces
of this era ?

Albinoni’s Adagio: possibly the most depressing piece of music ever, but brilliant.

Well, let’s start with the “Big Three”:

Bach
[ul]
[li]Brandenburg Concertos[/li][li]Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor, BWV 1043[/li][li]Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 [/li][/ul]
Handel
[ul]
[li]Water Music & Music For the Royal Fireworks[/li][li]Messiah[/li][li]Concerto Grossi[/li][/ul]
Vivaldi
[ul]
[li]Four Seasons[/li][li]Gloria in D Major[/li][li]Lute/Mandolin/Guitar Concerti[/li][/ul]

If your looking to buy a CD, go with a “Greatest Hits” package for these composers as well.

I am not an specialist in baroque music. Still:

Pachelbel “Canon”
Haendel “Arrival of the queen of sheba” “Sarabande”
Mouret “Rondeau”
Bach “Air for g string” “sleepers awake” “jesus joy of man desires” “Oberture n 1 and 2”

The concertos for chlavicord and orchestra are definitely a must.

We have a winner!
K364 has posted the correct answer.

I’m going through a major Bach period the past couple weeks so I’ll leave him at “anything” but the concerti for harpsichord are on at the moment.

If you like brass you’ll like Telemann.
