Nah. The pendulum has swung back towards wetter martinis, from what I can tell. Not necessarily really “wet,” but none of this bullshit “pass the shadow of the vermouth bottle over the gin” stuff. I would say something around 5:1 gin:vermouth is standard.

Agreed. I like martinis, I don’t care so much for just cold gin in a glass.

I don’t know what it is about sour mix, but it really does have a weird, off taste to it. Even a poorly proportioned mix of lemon juice and simple syrup I’d prefer. Maybe there are some good brands of sour but the typical (Mr & Mrs T, Collins, Master of Mixes) have this, I dunno, chemically bite to it, without the fruitiness. Maybe kind of like the difference between RealLemon and a real lemon, but much moreso. Maybe it’s the bite of the additional citric acid or something.
