Baseball cap fit

Which type of baseball cap do you prefer?

Fitted

Flexfit - elastic “one size fits all”

Adjustable old-fashioned snapback

Adjustable velcro

Adjustable buckle strap (a few different styles, could be like either this or this)

Gotta be fitted.

My hat size is around 8, which means that any adjustable hat will be on the last two clicks, if not the very last position. No adjustable hat fits me well.

I wear a baseball hat when I’m out in the sun and I prefer a buckle-type. The elastic ones stretch out before they wear out, and the Velcro fittings get caught in my hair. The buckle adjustment I can tighten up exactly as needed for windy days when I’m on the lawnmower.

You forgot “all and any.” I always wear a hat.

Used to be whatever I could get my hands on. Now that I can afford them, it’s a standard fitted 59 Fifty. A new one every year.

No question, fitted. All the other kinds are horrible, especially the old plastic snap ones. Gah. And while I’m at it, I hate mesh on ballcaps and that weird foam.

But which do you prefer? Say I’m giving 1 free hat to everyone and I’ve got each kind. Which do you want?

The one I like the best in front. What’s in back doesn’t matter to me. Though I do like Velcro.

Fitted, although the velcro ones do just fine. It all depends on whether it’s a hat I bought, or one I was given. My collection is about 50/50. College hats are fitted, sports hats are velcro. I think I own 4 San Diego Padres hats, because they give them away every year at Petco.

My personal thoughts on each:

Fitted - I must have an odd sized head because I’ve never found a fitted hat that actually fits. It’s either uncomfortably tight or too loose. My head must be between sizes I guess.

Flexfit - elastic “one size fits all” - one size definitely does not fit all. These just don’t sit right on my head for whatever reason.

Adjustable old-fashioned snapback - definitely the bottom rung. On every one of these hats I’ve ever had, sooner or later the plastic pegs snap off, rendering it useless.

Adjustable buckle strap (a few different styles, could be like either this or this) - I like these in principle, but when I have to wear the hat backwards for various reasons, the buckle digs into my forehead. Ouch.

Adjustable velcro - my personal choice. Gives me a perfect fit, and avoids the buckle-forehead problem.

Fitted is the most comfortable, assuming you’ve got the right size. I typically prefer the vintage style of The Franchise by Twins Enterprises. The New Era 59fifty is a little too stiff.

Flex-fit never quite feels right to me, although I have one hat that usually wear when I play golf that is flex fit. Like the 59fifty, it’s usually kind of stiff.

Snap-back is actually a nice option if fitted is not available. I like the old-school look of it.

I hate velcro on hats. It looks cheap to me.

Buckle straps are similar to velcro, but perhaps on a lesser scale. I’ve got an old buckle strap Goodyear hat that I got for free with the purchase of 4 new tires. I’ll wear it for mowing the lawn and stuff, because, hey it was free. If it had been velcro, though, I’d have tossed it in the trash.

I slightly prefer fitted, but all are fine assuming they can be adjusted properly.

When I can find a hat I can actually squeeze onto my head then I slightly prefer fitted. That’s a rarity though with my size 8 3/4 head. I have not found an off the rack hat that really fit me since I was a sophomore in high school.

I used to be a fitted only guy, but then I realized I keep losing my hats but the rest of my family doesn’t. It’s much more cost effective to have hats any of us can wear.

Yeah, I know for some ppl sharing hats is tantamount to sharing underwear, if we felt that way we’d all have fitted hats

Fiited. I have a huge head plus huge curly hair so anything else literally pops off. Fiited tends to be taller so it stays on my head and can hold a good bit of my hair. All those other options are too short, top-to-bottom.

Although fitted sucks when my hair gets longer/thicker. Or shorter/thinner. It can be like a 1/2 size difference.

I voted fitted, but I’d probably be just as happy with a slightly elasticized band as well. I don’t wear hats too often (just in the summer), so the elastic probably wouldn’t wear out too quickly.
