Baseball June 2009

The Blue Jays will lose tonight, because they’re facing Zack Grienke. (Sp?)

Grienke’s piched about a third of a full season. 11 starts, 82 innings. That’s a fair number of innings - in the AL only Roy Halladay has pitched more. How many home runs has Grienke given up? None. Not a single one. He doesn’t give up many hits or walks, either, but he has given up exactly zero homers.

For fun, I went to the MLB web site and sorted all major league pitchers by innings pitched, just to see who the guy with the second most homerless innings was. Relief pitcher Ramon Troncoso, 34 innings.

Even as a Rangers fan I’m scratchin’ my head over that one. Burnett’s appealing. Think they might lessen the number of games he’s out?

A little off topic but last Friday my nephew’s team, Howard College, won the 2009 JUCO World Series title in Grand Junction, defeating Sante Fe, Florida 7 to 4. HC’s record for the year? 63 - 1. A RHP, he’d sure like to make it to the next level. Maybe someday we’ll see his name in one of these threads.

The Rangers are 31 - 22. Unbelivable. Young got back on track recently. Now we need Kinsler to do the same.

I’m not sure, but the point of a 6-game ban is to miss 2 starts, so maybe they’ll reduce it to 1 start.

That’s cool about your nephew!

If the ban began immediately after the game in which the offense occured, wouldn’t that mean only one missed start?

:smack: Yes, of course.

Right, except that it might mean only delaying the next start a day or two. Josh Beckett got a 6-gamer earlier this year, for something he hadn’t even been ejected for, but dropped it just before the next off day. At that point it meant nothing at all.

Glad to see Hamels shine at Dodger stadium. Pulling out a complete game shut out. Great stuff! I don’t know how this rotation is going to pan out. But, atleast we have him coming out every 5th day and he seems pretty uninjured at this point in time.

Well, there’s a financial impact.

This ended just now so I guess I cursed him.

It was your fault.

Wow, Jeremy Gutherie is just horrible. Didn’t get out of the 1st inning against the A’s. I benched him on one of my fantasy teams and he’s getting dropped tomorrow.

Also, a nice win for the Rangers against the Red Sox. Millwood looked great through the first 7 innings. I never thought the Rangers could be this good without Hamilton, but they continue to hang in there.

There are a lot of empty seats at Dodger Stadium today. They’ve got one of the best teams in the National League and they’re facing the World Series Champs who are also one of the best teams in the National League. It looks like a nice day. It’s the 6th inning, so it isn’t the 'late arrving LA fans…" The Lakers game doesn’t start for a while. At least the bleachers seem close to full.

The Rays got to Rivera again today. The Yanks tried hard for another come back win but came up short. 27 games at the new stadium and at least on HR in every one.

Michael Young breaks up Lester’s no hitter tonight. Sox are looking good, but I bet the Rangers come back.

And the Boys in Blue do it again. Andre Ethier with his second walk-off hit in less than 24 hours beats the Phillies. It was his second homer of the game after pinch-hitting Rafael Furcal homered off Brad Lidge to tie it in the 9th. Seems like Ethier is getting over his post-Manny slump. 20 games above .500! Sweet.

Baseball Tonight just nicknamed the new Yankee Stadium “Whiffle Ball Park”

Genius.

Correction, Michael Young broke up Lester’s Perfect Game last night. Grrrrr.

Not so much with the coming back part though.

Another HR for the big guy. Hopeful signs?

I’d like to keep track of the game online, but of course MLB.com is broken again.

And I can’t listen to the game online because it’s blacked out, since the Jays are home.

They do such a great job making the product accessible to the online fan.

Roy Halladay.

Story in the Detroit Free Press that Ordonez is likely to be released in about a month. He has an 18 mill contract for next year and a ton of bonuses that he could collect this year. Between he and Guillen, a chunk of Tiger offense is missing this year.
