baseball rules - ever checked for consitency?

Looking again, the rule actually seems pretty clear. The batter became a runner the instant the strike hit the ground, before the run scored. Regardless of when the runner from third actually reaches home, no run scores on a two out play if the batter/runner doesn’t reach first safely.

And the rule is pretty clear that if the run scores because the improper batter reached first (by any means, note the ‘or otherwise’ in Freddy’s quote), it will be disallowed. In other words, the game should be re-set as if the batter had not reached safely.

In this case, had the (improper) batter been forced out at first after the dropped third strike, there would be no run. Therefore the pretty clear ruling is to disallow the run.

Yeah, I agree, on re-reading. The runner from third can’t be credited with scoring solely on a wild pitch because the act of not catching a third strike turns the batter into a batter-runner. Now the earlier part of 6.07 counts, because the runner on third was forced to advance home by the batter-runner’s advance to third.

If the runner had scored on a wild pitch on the PREVIOUS pitch, the run scores,* even if the defense had then immediately appealed the out-of-turn batter.*
