With Bonds stealing a base tonight, and getting very close to 500 (I think that was #498) he will be the first career 500HR/500SB MLB’er. That got me thinking, who else has even come close to that? Is there a 400/400 person? I started digging through stats to see what I could find…here’s some numbers from others:
Career HRs/SBs
Willie Mays: 660/338
Bobby Bonds: 332/461
Jose Canseco: 462/200
Rickey Henderson: 295/1403
Am I forgetting anyone obvious? Is there a 400/400 person? If not, any other notable people that should be listed as “also-rans” to Barry’s 500/500 milestone?
Andre Dawson: 438 HR, 314 SB
Joe Morgan: 268 HR, 689 SB
Paul Molitor: 234 HR, 504 SB
Roberto Alomar: 201 HR, 462 SB (pre-2003)
Hank Aaron: 755 HR, 240 SB
Frank Robinson: 586 HR, 204 SB
Reggie Jackson: 563 HR, 228 SB
Corky Sosa: 499 HR, 233 SB (pre-2003)
Dave Winfield: 465 HR, 223 SB
Joe Carter: 396 HR, 231 SB
Darryl Strawberry: 335 HR, 221 SB, 214 FC (Felony Convictions)
Larry Walker: 335 HR, 215 SB (pre-2003)
George Brett: 317 HR, 201 SB
Alex Rodriguez: 298 HR, 160 SB (pre-2003) and he’s only 27.
Hank Aaron - 755/240
Andre Dawson - 438/314
Dave Winfield - 465/223
Sammy Sosa - 505/233
After Mays and the Bonds’, it’s pretty slim pickings. Dawson is the next closest to 400/400
Barry Bonds: 628/498 currently.
Last year, Alfoso Soriano hit 39 HR & had 41 SB. Shoud he keep up that unlikely pace, after 13 seasons, he would have 507 HR and 533 SB. Possibly more, if he remains healthy.
Unlikely, yes, but in 20 years, we may be talking about AS as a 600/600 man.
From ESPN.
It pained me as a Red Sox Fan to have to do that.
