My main beef is that even if they put the luxury tax in, it won’t do anything and may even make competitive balance WORSE. It will prevent the teams that kinda have money but not really from spending a little more to put themselves over the top, and Steinbrenner will simply pay it and continue to buy players like he always does because the Yankees have so much more money than anyone else.
There needs to be an NFL style system in place.
First, a comment…
croaker - You say baseball has too many games but hockey is okay? huh? when almost half the teams make the post season in hockey how can you say each game matters?
Okay… now my view.
I’ve been on strike since 1994. I haven’t been to a game, bought a shirt, a hat, a video or anything else with MLB on it. And believe me, I’ve wanted to. I’ve been a Yankee fan since 1977. I watched them struggle for years before finally start winning again. It is nice to see them win the world series. It would have been nice to watch them play. It would have been great to own a highlight video.
Not one dime did I spend. Nothing. Billionares arguing with millionares on how to divide up $3.5 billion annually is disgusting. It is long time the players and owners realize where the money comes from, and to never, ever do this again.
Vote with your dollar. By buying tickets and memorbilia and whatever else you are telling these idiots it is okay to do what they are doing. Stop it and go on strike until ticket prices drop. If you keep supporting the sport, stop complaining when the vultures cirlce and argue how to spend your money. I’m seriously beginning to think fans are worse than the players and owners.
I sure have heard of her! Her picture is on the front page of the UM Athletics website right now.
I am going to Ann Arbor on Friday to watch them in an exhibition game against the US National team. There will be an autograph session after the game. I am also going to try and make it to at least a couple other games (I live in the Flint area, which is about an hour north of Ann Arbor, and I am on the faculty of the University’s Flint campus).
Actually I believe 2/3rds of the teams in hockey make it to the play-offs. What the hecks the real point of the regular season anyway ?
I digress.
I love baseball. Love it. I feel it is simply the best sport ever played on this planet. JMHO. However, if there is a strike and it does cost us fans the play-offs and World Series - I will burn every piece of Braves paraphenalia I own. All of it, and I own a lot ! This whole thing is just about greed. The owners are greedy billionaires and the players are greedy millionaires. It truly makes me sick. I am fan of Tom Glavine on the field, I don’t understand Tom Glavine the Union Rep. Don’t the players see that unless something is done to level the playing field in the sport that eventually MLB will choke itself to death on shrinking TV ratings and a dwindling fan base ? It seems to be obvious to everyone else.
Please don’t kill America’s greatest game.
Fans can strike too.
cmosdes, you are the first Yankee fan I’ve ever come across that I have respect for. You’re a class act, and if more fans behaved the way you did, the game probably wouldn’t be in the sorry state today that it is.
Damn, and this was the first season since the last strike that I’d actually started to care again. Buncha damn teases.
