Baseball vs. Everything else

I had never heard of Sophie Tucker till I Googled the name. I read an article a few weeks ago that mentioned an author named Sophie Lewis.

I would estimate that Sophie Tucker is about 1500 times more famous than Sophie Lewis.

I know 0 about Sophie Tucker, 1500 times 0 is still 0.

That’s kinda the challenge of this game, isn’t it? Especially with common names like Johnson and Miller and Martinez, you can almost always find some non-baseball person with that surname.

So notability becomes an issue. How about this, as a solution - if a particular couplet hasn’t been guessed in 18 hours, the poster gives the answer, then proposes another pair. Sound fair?

In that case…Daniel and Charlie was Murphy.

Don and Willie

(BTW, was “Charlie Murphy” Eddie’s little-known dead brother or an Irish BBC actress? Both are equally obscure–why not just go with “Eddie”?)

The actress…in the moment, I somehow didn’t even think of Eddie. I think this thread has demonstrated that obscurity is in the eyes of the beholder.

Sutton

Jason and Cameron

Heyward

Mike and Nate

Corey and Bret

Hart?

Gary and Lester

I want to say Maddox, but it’s Garry.

Cornelius and Lee

Was the player known as Cornelius, or was that a birth name? If the later, Mack. If the former…maybe Cook?

Larry and Alan

Yes, I was being a bit sneaky, since he was known as “Connie”. And of course his surname wasn’t actually “Mack”, but “McGillicuddy”. But hey, you try finding another famous McGillicuddy.

Sorry, you are correct.

It should be:

Garry and Lester

Dr. McGillicuddy.
