Bathroom mirror with water damage, what should I do?

Okay, I posted the pictures to imgur, they should be here, let me know if they don’t show up.

The first two pictures are from the master bathroom, the second two are from the guest. The mirror in the master is 42"x77", and the mirror in the guest is 40"x60". The close up shots are to show what it is I’m talking about, but it’s like that along the whole bottom of both mirrors, and a bit up the side of the master bathroom. The black stuff is less than 1" along most of it, and a bit more than 1.5" at a few points.

It’s not the highest priority, there are other things I’m cleaning and doing first, but it’s something on my mind and I wanted to see what options I have. Thanks everyone for the advice, and feel free to give more.

Ah, I see. Those are indeed large mirrors cut to size, expensive to replace.

For the style in your bathroom, I would recommend glueing an edge of whitish ( or mirrorish) mozaic tiles to the edge to cover up the damage. It would ook nice if you applied it around the mirror, as well as ON the edge of the mirror. That will make the mirror heavier, though, so you will need to reinforce the way it is hung.

Another, less heavy solution is ordering a strip of thin mirror, with a beviled edge, and just gluing it onto the edges of the mirror.

Maybe just paint the edge white? if primed, most paints will stick. If you can paint tile, you must be able to paint mirrors as well.

One more idea: can you take the mirror off the wall and just cut an inch-wide strip off around the edges ? Or take the mirror to an shop that will do it for you and make the edges neat?

Your master mirror is about the size of mine (the one I remounted upside down), but has more damage than mine did. My damage was more like your smaller mirror.

I’d try flipping the larger one (and taking steps to prevent further damage) to see how noticeable the damage is first. If it’s obvious (and it may be), I’d consider some of the suggestions above such as replacement or disguising the damage.

I think if you flipped (and took steps to prevent further damage) the smaller mirror, you would likely not notice the damaged area.

I guess it depends on your budget. Your large mirror (and maybe the smaller one, too) are likely custom and not standard sized. Price could help you decide what to do.

Here’s a mirror with a tile frame.

I think it looks great.

My parents put a strip of border wallpaper along the bottom of their mirror, and it looks really good. It matches the rest of the room.

Yes, it does! That site had a tutorial, too. But they said nothing about the added weight. Be sure to get the mirror off the wall, weigh it, and make sure that when you hang it again, the clips can take the extra weight.

The wall behind the mirror wil be fine, by the way.

This is the bevilled mirror strips I was talking about. They are 1,5 inch wide so will cover the damage. Can be applied in under an hour. That is the the easiest solution.
