BF2 does have one saving grace for me, though; on the first day I played it, as a MEC sniper, I took a single potshot at a Black Hawk helicopter just for the hell of it. Killed the pilot, caused the helicopter to crash, got credit for the passenger kills. Never in my life will I be able to reproduce that magic bullet.

Yeah, the lack of mobility kills on the tanks has always really cheesed me off. One or two hits to the treads with a rocket, and you should have an immobile but otherwise functional tank. I don’t appreciate getting killed by a 5% tank that pops out of an alley and hits me. A 5% tank shouldn’t be able to move.

Useful link. It lists everyone’s online status so you can check it and see if anyone is playing. If someone is online (indicated by a green orb), just load up their profile and look at the server name. Start the game and join up.
Another way would be to click on the server and bring up the gamemonitor website for it. From that you could write down the IP and manually enter it into the server browser. It’s a little more cumbersome, but slightly faster I think.
For example, as I write this, I see that St_Ides is online and I’d join the game if he bothered to update to 1.03. I used it earlier to join one with lno. He promptly owned me with his artillery.
Bothered to update? Hell, I didn’t know there was one… Getting it now.

I was perusing my profile, and despite that I have over 2300 points, I’m not a Corporal yet. According to their list, I should be close to Sergeant by now.
You’ll be a lot closer to Corporal once you upload the patch… I made one rank, my son made four…
I got promoted, finally. I think I should reach Sergeant by the end of tonight. Then I’ll take the g36.
I finally got promoted too. Now if I could ever be bothered to get seven knife kills in a round I’d be able to get the final unlock, but meh. I don’t really care since the default engineer kits are plenty good and getting seven knife kills is hard.
Did you notice that I killed you once or twice last night?

i’d highly suggest that people try this server. You must play in a squad and VoIP is used pretty much all the time. Squads don’t do anything until their SL gives them an order and commanders are pretty good too. It’s weird to actually see squads defending flags for a change

My own little way of saying hi. I do wish that I could get credit for artillery kills. It’d be the only way I could get to a 1:1 kill/death ratio…
Speaking of commander scoring, how does a commander get points? I don’t get anything for neutralizing or capturing a flag, but I seem to get some for the time I spend in the commander interface. Is there any direct relation to actions performed and points earned?
I’m pretty new to BF2 also. Still haven’t figured out how to do the stock responses from BF 1942 though (the function key commands i.e. stay together…go go go…roger).
I did finally manage to take out a tank with one anti-tank shot though (usually takes me 6+). Somehow I managed to hit the tank exactly between the turret and the body of the tank from behind. The explosion was beautiful 
Your commander score is the team’s average (and then doubled if your team wins.) How the commander score relates to your global score is much trickier and I don’t think anyone knows exactly how that bit works. The only thing you can do to boost your score is help your team score more points. Don’t kill stuff with arty and don’t stop the enemy from capturing your flags.
Hold down Q and move the mouse until you select the one you want. Click the left mouse button. T also has some commands on it.
So do I…right now, on average, I died for every global point that I have. That’s some serious dying!

I will give this server a try…I’ve been on Team HAF the last couple of nights and I need a change of tactics, with some teamwork.
Oh yeah…my son showed me this site called http://www.totalbf2.com/. Gots lots o’stuff. He downloaded and showed me these 2 BF2 stunt movies which are both amazing and funny stuff that a bunch of players did and put together along with a couple of Guns N Roses tunes. Highly recommended.

I laughed, I cried, I said “WTF…how’d they do that”?
I go by Accipiter there. I can’t say for certain that there was no damage but fairly certain. It was the Wake 2007 map. The allies (my team) just capture the base N of the airstrip. A Chinese tank was inbound over the rise but I’m on the hill just S of where the tank stops. No smoke coming from the tank and hadn’t seen any other AT hits. It likely just came from the airstrip so probably no other point where it could had been damaged. I took one shot from behind (slightly to his right and a little extra elevation) hit exactly at between the turret and body and down it went.
I’ll give it another shot and see if I can get in the same situation and verify it better.
Sounds like you hit a damaged tank on the backplate for 45% damage. Did the tank flame then explode or instantly explode?
