Battling for Azeroth: The Upcoming WoW Expansion

I found a nice overview of how WoW has changed since Lich King:

There’s also similar guides from other expansions.

Heck yea I’ve prepurchased. The changes to world pvp alone(bounty, assassin reward, warmode, duellers guild, etc.) alone is enough to get me back. It also helps that we have an expansion where we are not the chosen one to please the special snowflakes all over the world  I mean, I am pretty tired of being the greatest hero in the world the second I ding on my 11th alt.

Anyway Hype level for BFA 10/10 - even wrote an article on what Warmode could bring of great changes to possibly save pvp: World of Warcraft PvP - Features & Changes that could save WoW PvP

So, you’re a PvPer. What are your thoughts about world PvP in this xpac? (Specifically, the fact that it’ll be an entirely voluntary activity, so no more ganking.)

While I enjoy questing more than PvP, I do like to PvP that’s not random ganking. (The only MMO I’m currently playing is Planetside 2.) Anything that structures it better looks good to me.

Instead of spamming a link, why don’t you tell us in this thread what you think.

No more ganking? What is my rogue going to do now?

Is pick-pocketing still a thing?

I guess I like the idea of War Mode (what little I have read about it), though I wish there were still PvP realms where disabling it wasn’t an option.

Frankly, I could happily play a World of Warcraft in which involuntary PvP wasn’t a consideration anymore (not that it technically ever was…if you don’t want to be forced into PvP vulnerability, you do what I’ve always done and never play on a PvP server). I know a lot of people like it, but I rarely ever participate (I have done Warden Tower world quests in Legion, but only when I was pushing for Exalted with Highmountain and Suramar…and that rarely actually involved PvP against other players (this was very late in the xpac).

That’s cool. Different horses for different courses.

My only question to folks that eschew pvp & group content: isn’t WoW kind of a mediocre single player RPG game without those things? Or does it still hold up as a fun game against those made specifically as single player games?

I mean this as a serious question as WoW is pretty much the only game I’ve played since about 2007 (other than briefly trying Guild Wars 2 which I couldn’t get into, and a little bit of Heroes of the Storm)

Sure, it holds up. My favorite things are questing and exploring (and now, collecting, with transmog).

My main is a hunter. I always have a group.

The game is very solo-friendly. IMHO, people overstate the importance of the “multi-player” angle, and some of those people get very bent out of shape because of it.

The best “multi-player” is jumping in to help, or having someone jump in to help you, when dealing with a Large Baddy (like a world boss) without formal grouping. My official friends list is small, and no IRL friend plays the game, so “multi-player” is inherently “working with strangers”.

The fact that wPvP will no longer be mandatory fun* means that I won’t have to feel bad accidentally injuring or killing an opposite-faction player who’s working on the same target.

*Yeah, I know, if I didn’t want to wPvP, I shouldn’t have rolled on Assholes-galore. Alas, the few IRL friends that did play WoW rolled on that server, and I rolled there to join them, and then they lost interest, so it’s just me and several thousand strangers, of whom about 45% might want to kill me for the color of my skin or the accent of my speech. And I’m too cheap to transfer 12 toons to a friendly server.

I will not complain if they never again do that same-faction PvP crap they pulled on the Timeless Isle and again in Legion with some quest apparently involving Aviana* that makes the PvP towers and the Falcosaur WQ areas “free-for-all” PvP zones (if you’re Prestige Level 1 or higher). When I’m on my human paladin, assaulting a Horde-controlled tower, I accept the possibility that a Horde player might show up to challenge me. I’m certainly *not *expecting that night elf DK over there to suddenly gank me. Particularly when I’m not even aware that it’s a possibility.

*WTF, Aviana? I rescued you back in Cataclysm, and I’m Exalted with both Guardians of Hyjal and Avengers of Hyjal! And now you’re rewarding people for ganking me?!

Anyway, I saw a video on YouTube that was explaining the new PvP thing in BfA, where PvP servers will effectively cease to exist. Instead, all servers will be PvE … unless you flag yourself for PvP. When you do that, you’ll be sharded into a PvP version of your server, with the other players who voluntarily flagged themselves. All PvP will be completely voluntary.

To encourage people to flag for PvP, they’re adding something like PvP talents, and the interesting thing is that the bonuses from these “talents” will be “in addition to” your regular talents instead of replacing them, and they will remain in effect in *all *content, not just BGs and arenas. So flagging yourself for PvP will increase your overall power in all situations.

My

“/me has picked your pocket and stolen 8g, 57s, 23c.
/w Thanks for the gold, schmuck!”

macro is definitely still a thing.

There is also currently on the beta a 15% XP bonus if you have this War Mode toggled on…

Friendly reminder that it appears you will still be able to unlock certain artifact appearances (in the mage tower row) in BFA as long you unlock the mage tower appearance before BFA drops. So if you want those t-mog options, make sure you get your mage tower appearance unlocked. If you haven’t tried it recently, mage tower challenges are A LOT easier than when they first opened up (due to higher gear levels).

I got my “In Service of the Alliance” achievement last night (for 10 rated battleground wins) to unlock one of the last Doomhammer appearances I really wanted (looks really good with my green nature-ish looking t-mog).
