Bay Area Dopers: best place to sell 500 paperbacks?

Hi all. I am doing my 2-3 year book purge. I buy primarily used paperbacks and I have a metric fuckload this time, not sure why. I usually donate my purged books to the library, but we are broke and even a hundred fifty bucks would be helpful. These are regular old mass market paperbacks, primarily crime fiction/thrillers but with a healthy sprinkling of novels as well. All in reasonable shape, no cracked spines/missing covers/pages falling out. I bought them at 1.00-4.00 a pop.

What I don’t really want to have happen is for someone to pick out the 50-100 or so they want and hand me back the rest. I would love it if I could just hand them over and be done with it.

Any suggestions for places that handle paperbacks in bulk, folks? I would prefer East Bay but I can drive to the city if need be. Thanks.

There’s a Half Price Books in Berkeley, right by Shattuck & University (2036 Shattuck). It’s a pretty sizeable place so they might take a big slug of books all at once. 510-526-6080, give them a call.

I really like Pegasus and Black Oak (also both in Berkeley) but I don’t know if they’d take that many books at one go.

You might also try Moe’s also in Berkeley on Telegraph.

Thanks guys.

Also try Recycled Books in San Jose. It is pretty large. I suspect you might have to go to a couple of places.

Know Knew Books in Palo Alto is pretty good also, though not as big. There is a Half Priced Books in Fremont also (880 off of Auto Mall.)

Moe’s. Call them. They buy whole libraries.
