Bay Area Public Transit- how do I get from the Oakland Airport to San Francisco

I won’t have a car.

I’ll want to save money so I’d prefer no to take a cab.

I’ll only have a backback, so there’s no bulky luggage to make bus travel inconvenient.

I need to get from:

**Oakland International Airport

to

The Hotel Utah Saloon at 500 4th St. in San Francisco**
Will this be easy? Hard? This will be on a Sunday- don’t know if that affects bus routes.

You can take a bus from the Oakland airport to the BART station a couple of miles away. BART will take you under the bay and into SF. How close BART gets you will be left as an exercise in MapQuest

Have a lot of odd dollar bills and change for that shuttle at Oakland terminal-- I’ve had problems with that place before, getting there at odd hours with no staff and no change machines.

At the airport, purchase a fare on the AIRBART shuttle. There are ticket machines near the exit and the shuttle picks up right outside the terminal. It costs $2. That takes you from the airport to the BART station at the Oakland Coliseum. Once there, purchase a BART ticket for $8.30 and take the San Francisco-Daly City train to the Powell Street station. Have exact change for each of the above transactions as the machines are not good about giving change. The $8.30 will cover your trip to San Francisco as well as your return trip to the Coliseum station and Air BART back to the airport. Any other transport you need during your stay will cost extra.

Once at Powell Street station, you’d have about a 1 mile hike to the hotel or you can take a bus. Turn right when you exit the station at Market Street, then turn right again at the corner which is 4th street.

The 45 bus goes along 4th street and picks up at the corner of 4th and Market. The bus costs $1.25. Your destination is at the intersection of 4th and Bryant.

It should be pretty easy and even though it’s a Sunday, the most you should have to wait for any one of the three is 15 minutes. Good luck and have fun!
