Bayboy and DQ -- Karma Bites!

For those of you who were outraged by the story of Bayboy and DQ: The worm finally turned. Bayboy got his revenge.

When last I updated the previous thread, Bayboy was still with DQ, who had bought another horse. I drove by her place a while ago and saw the other horse. It’s not a young horse, after all; it’s a light gray, solid-looking gelding, and a neighbor of DQ I’m acquainted with told me it’s just the kind of calm, sensible horse DQ should own, assuming she should own any horse to begin with.

The neighbor also had this to tell me: That DQ had taken Bayboy out for a trail ride, and the horse lost it and dumped her. Neighbor arrived at the scene while the EMTs were carrying DQ out to the ambulance. She said that Bayboy was caught by a horse-savvy person who tried to lead the horse back to its barn, but had to give up and let it bolt when Bayboy kept trying to slam him into fences, trees, anything – that’s how wound up the horse was. Bayboy did get home safely and was unharmed.

DQ had to have half her head shaved for the 30 to 40 stitches her gashes required. Neighbor’s gesture to indicate where was a broad brushing motion from left eyebrow back over top and side of the head. I haven’t heard any followup on how DQ is doing, or what permanent scars she may have. Nor do I know what her husband has done about Bayboy.

Neighbor told me DQ lived through this only because she had a helmet on. Which surprised me, since DQ was always too vain about her looks to wear a helmet in the ring at my barn. Oh, well; she won’t have much to be vain about for quite a while, will she?

Neighbor also said DQ was three sheets to the wind and combative with the EMTs when they were hauling her out of the woods. Why does this not surprise me?

Anyway, for those of you who care, I thought you’d appreciate this followup. If I can find out what’s become of Bayboy, I’ll let you know.

Unfortunately, the worm is likely to keep turning and bite that poor horse right in the ass. He’ll probably be put down or sold for slaughter. I knew something like this was going to happen. Sometimes being right really sucks.

I hope that’s not true, CrazyCatLady. That poor horse has been through so much, and for him to have to be put down because of this woman’s constant abuse would just break my heart.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the update, ETF. If DQ holds to form, she will blame everyone but herself for this.

I know it’s heartbreaking and monstrously unfair, but between this and the initial incident, he’s at high risk for being considered a dangerous animal, if not by the courts, then by the husband. (Yes, I know he’d be really stupid to blame the horse, but considering that he voluntarily lives with DQ, I’m thinking he can’t be all that bright.) Unfortunately, that’s what happens to dangerous horses.

Alas, you’re most likely correct, CrazyCatLady. I’ve been meaning to drive past the house and see if Bayboy is still there. Also, I see the neighbor from time to time at a farm in an adjoining town where I get hay and she boards her horses. Hopefully, she should be able to fill me in on any developments. I’ll report on anything I learn.
