BBC Radio 1981 Lord of the Rings

I’d never even heard of this until someone mentioned it in an online chat. Now, I’m really intrigued.

The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy: The Complete Collection Of The Classic BBC Radio Production (BBC Radio Collection) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0563528885/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_GHg3Fb297A8T0

Anyone heard it? I’m definitely a fan of the books and films. I’m fine with podcasts, old time radio and short stories for listening. It’s been a long time since I listened to a full novel as an audio book, so I’m wondering how I’d fare with this? But, I assume it’s probably more gripping since it’s not just a single narrator.

It seems to be available free here on archive.org.

I think I have it on CD. I’ll know better in a few weeks.

I like the radio drama and have the 13(?) CD set. Ian Holm (Bilbo in the PJ movies) plays Frodo. There are sound effects. No Bombadil. There is at least one instance of awful singing, but it doesn’t last long.
