BBC screwup, mistakes cabbie for internet music expert, with video!

Here’s the link, and the article is right, the look on the guy’s face when he finally realizes what is happening is classic.

Poor guy. I probably would have done the same thing if put in that position.

Oh yeah. Another funny thing is they still didn’t seem to know who the heck he was. Wonder if he just ran away as soon as the camera cut away, hehe.

Apart from his diction, he didn’t make much less sense than most interviewees on news channels. And he was a lot more reasonable than most cab drivers I’ve met.

Really, really funny.

Here’s the response from the real guy:

It seems to indicate that there’s more video.

That doesn’t sound to me like there’s any more footage.

The funniest thing for me is the way he seems to warm to his subject after floundering a bit on the first question. And then the BBC reporter that they cut to agrees with his last point

How do they know he was a cab driver?

He didn’t say that in the clip.

¡Ay, pobrecito! He was pretty honest, as far as I can discern–but still more informative re: pertinent issue than a US presidential policy press conference… [d&r]

Sounds to me like the guy’s being a little creative in his blog. And the way I read it, he hasn’t been able to rewatch the footage, and so is relying on his memory of the first bemused viewing.

I have to agree with the real guy’s contention that the BBC should have put the real him on as soon as possible with a short explanation about the mistaken interview, and let him give his commentary so that people wouldn’t think that was actually him.

Unfortunately when I played the clip I only got an opening picture of the woman, and the sound, so I didn’t get to see the cabbie’s reactions. I need a better computer.

If you look near the end of the clip, just before they switch to the guy on the link, the interviewer is verbally stumbling and treading water; I’ll bet there was someone screaming “it’s the wrong guy! we’re interviewing the wrong guy!” in her earpiece.
