BBQ'd flies anyone??

Yesterday while joking around with some of my friends, a fly came out of nowhere and flew right into my mouth. I tried to spit it out, but to no avail. Therefore I took a sip of water and swallowed the bastard.
Now I was wondering, Is it dangerous to swallow a fly??
This incident changed the topic of our conversation. It suddenly centred on a tv show that was played a few months back, where there were people eating all sorts of insects and invertebrates.

I was wondering have any of you swallowed a fly before? Mine had no taste, What about yours? Have any of you eaten strange food?? How Does it taste like ?? Do worms really taste like chicken?? Any one of you have any good recipes to share?? How do we clean the food?? Will water suffice??

I haven’t been on this site long. Only for a month. So if a thread similary to this has been posted in the past please refer me to it.

Before long, you’ll have to swallow a spider to catch the fly; it’s all downhill from there, believe me.
Perhaps you’ll die.

A more serious answer, I suppose, would be that a lot depends on the type of fly and where it has been lately; for example if it was a fruit fly or fungus gnat, it’s not quite as likely to be packing the same sort of nasty array of pathogens as perhaps a bluebottle that has just lunched on a dog turd.

Yummy, Take a bike ride through some “MOIST” terrain with your mouth open and you recieve a fast array of flighted creatures. I`ve accidentily swallowed many insects without knowing what they are. Not chewed any of them or let them linger long enough for a taste tho. They only have three options at this point - lungs, stomach, or freedom.

It was a common housefly.
