I am going to be helping to mold impressionable young woman of the next generation to be self-sufficient and great people… I’m going to be a Guide leader… grins
All the while I see that said with 666 as the post count at this moment for Topaz.
I am afraid!!!
Y’know… I hadn’t noticed that myself until you pointed it out… I think I’m starting to scare even myself
I am afraid. And I’m loving every second of it.
I am a man, but can I help? I’ll buy a van.
It’s even worse. These young women will more than likely be residing in the same city as I, your beloved lolagranola. Yes, I’ll be living in a city teeming with TopazAntares clones. Wish me luck, and for the love of Mike, send in reinforcements.
Brownie (i.e. junior, I don’t know the transatlantic terminology) Guides in Britain used to have an odd ritual involving running around, or jumping over, large scale models of amanita muscaria (fly agaric) mushrooms. I can’t remember why that was supposed to be a good example. Do they do that in your area too?
And yes, I’m happy to be afraid on your behalf.
Celyn, have they mentioned to anyone that the fly agaric mushroom is well known for its hallucinogenic properties?
Well, that and the old folk tale that mushroom rings were where the fairies (brownies, that is) danced . . .
Drug use, dancing, and small children. There’s got to be a connection there.
No, I think they neglected to mention that. I suppose it is just possible that they didn’t know. Hmm. Or perhaps the real reason was a long-term plan to teach us to find amusements that didn’t include taking up the time of pack leaders. Oh, except that the leaders were all under the impression that they were owls, for some unknown reason.
Yes, I suppose the excuse would have been that fly agaric is the fairy-tale mushroom. Perhaps I will find out whether they still do that, so that I could start a moral panic in the media, and sit back and watch the fun.
Celyn yup we have Brownies… the levels here are 5-6 Sparks 7-9 Brownies 10-12 Guides 13-15 Pathfinders 16-18 Rangers, Junior Leaders or Cadets and 18 and up Leaders I was in all except Sparks (I started at age 8 so I rushed Brownies a bit too) and we did dance around the Toadstool with the owl on it… they probably still do… grins I still remember the song too… “We’re the brownies here’s our aim. Lend a hand and play the game.”
My mom was in Guiding for 30 years. When I was five our leader quit so she took on the role and never left. She was with brownies, guides and pathfinders and still going to tent camps at age 69.
She received many awards and two weeks after she passed away, my brother and I accepted a National one on her behalf at a banquet of 600 people.
Its a very worthwhile organization. Enjoy! You will be making a difference.
