Be afraid, be very afraid

What hostility? He thinks that owners who treat their pets like people are silly. I ask again: Are we now required by board rules to think that people who treat their pets like people are reasonable and tell them such if they ask?

Look, I like you and your snarky bitchy in-yer-face-ism as much as the next guy, but here’s the bottom line: the warning he ended up with (not the original, misplaced one) is for being a jerk. You disagree that he was being a jerk, but when I read the thread, I saw his very first reply and correctly predicted that he was going to be an ass for the rest of the thread. He did not disappoint. He wasn’t participating in the spirit of the thread – his entire reason for being in there was to mock and deride and be an ass. You disagree. Fine. But your entire objection at this point boils down to a simple difference in opinion about what “being a jerk” is. How can you possibly be this attached to the decision?

The extra amusing part is that you’re over here in a froth because the mods see a particular behavior as jerky and you say it’s not, while at the same time, you’ve got a whole other thread where you’re equally (or perhaps even more) in a froth because the mods don’t see the phrase “the usual suspects” as jerky, but you are all worked up about it and think it should be prohibited. What the fuck, dude?

There’s plenty of middle ground in there. If he wasn’t interested in going to the Pit, he could have ignored the request or he just could have said no without the attitude.

I get that it’s a joke. It’s a joke that was jerkish and not appropriate for the thread (particularly when seen in context of the other responses I quoted) because it boils down to “as long as you’re going to do things that annoy me, go down on your cat.”

“He’ll mouth off and threadshit and obtain official warnings if he fucken well feels like it, okay?”

Yeah, you’re basically the Orioles.

What “spirit of the thread”? To tell the OP that she wasn’t crazy for speaking to an animal with less brainpower than a toddler like it was a person who could understand her? Sure, he was snarky about it, and probably needed to be officially asked to back off a bit–but there’s no requirement that every post outside of the Pit has to be sweetness and light and licking the ass of whoever started the thread.

It’s not contradictory at all. **prr **was *participating *in the thread–he just wasn’t giving the OP the response she wanted to hear. If he had said something like, “Why are we even talking about this? The topic is stupid–and I bet the same people are going to show up to tell the OP there’s nothing wrong with her,” *then *I’d be agreeing that he deserved a warning.

But since when is it against the rules to give a regular poster some attitude? Because it’s been clearly established here that **prr **didn’t think **Czar **was acting as a mod when he made the suggestion to start the thread.

That’s not what it boils down to. Again, there is a huge difference between “fellate your cat” and “fellating your cat would be a good way to annoy me.” One is prohibited by the rules of the board; the other is just a crass joke.

This isn’t the best analogy, but… “Breaking into a bank and sending me your take would be a good way to make me like you.” Did I just break a board rule? After all, I’m encouraging an illegal activity (bank robbery). Or do you understand that it’s a joke and not an actual instruction?

ETA:

And are you going to warn **The Flying Dutchman **for the post *he *just made?

Whoa. Big tempest. Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny teapot.

For what it’s worth, this is how I took it. I did not interpret prr’s post as being told to blow my cat. I was pissy, he was pissy. And he was pissy with more style than I was (hey, I seem to recall it was before coffee, sue me).

As for my ‘trolling’, I can see why people would think that, although it wasn’t my intention, or, I think the correct definition. If it’s against board rules to say to someone “Dude, that’s getting old.”, then the mods owe at least one poster a formal apology and a free membership.

I don’t think prr needed an official warning, and suspect it ultimately came out of the sentiment of “won’t someone think of the kitties!”. I love me some kitties, and I know I’m not alone here, but the kitties will be fine, as long as we don’t let prr date their owners.

Now, if you want to warn him for the “fucken” thing, I won’t object. That’s just obnoxious.

I agree that we should create a new rule that anyone who includes the word “fucken” in a way that isn’t a quote of another post should be insta-banned.

Or at least give up the right to complain if anyone goes modieval on their ass.

Thank you.

I find myself agreeing with you.

(First prr, now Shot From Guns - I may have to quit this thread just to save my sanity. )

You should probably lie down and close your eyes until the feeling goes away. Some deep breathing may help.

You shouldn’t have said that. He’ll probably agree with it and his head will explode.

Oh god, is there no way out of this terrible catch-22?

Quick, say something he can’t possibly agree with!

Kittens are soft!

Wait, shit… I think I suck at this. :frowning:

Well, it would have been good if it was prr you were talking to. Nice try, anyway.
