I haven’t seen Mears’ shows, so I’ll say that if Grylls isn’t allowed to strip down to nothing, while on camera, before or after the challenge, then he won’t have sufficient morale to win. (That’s my only explanation for his getting nekkid in fairly inhospitable environments, like the Arctic - he needs the exhibitionism to be motivated to do the rest of the stuff.)
