Eddie Van Halen was named for himself?
I think what he meant was that the group Van Halen was named for the person he was thinking of, since Bon Jovi would also fit that criteria.
(I suppose Michael Jackson would all, come to think of it.)
Van Halen is named after brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, the guitarist and drummer respectively.
Bon Jovi is named after John Bon Jovi.
Michael Jackson isn’t a group (unless you count his nose as a seperate entity, which maybe it is…)
Since this is about music, I’ll move this thread to Cafe Society.
Interesting little fact: Jackson asked Mark Knopfler to do the solo initially. Knopfler turned him down, because he couldn’t make heads or tails of the combination. I recall him saying in an interview, “I guess he must have thought, who’s the happening white boy at the moment?”
So, Eddie it was. Not a bad second choice, I’m sure we’ll all agree. Van Halen still remains the biggest Dutch band ever to conquer America.
although van halen did a mighty proud jobon the original, i must say Slash really ripped it all apart on the VH-1 MJ (where in the good god damn did the tabloids get ‘Jacko’? the australian rugger? 227’s Jackee?) marathon.
crunchin.
