Wow, I had never thought of that, but now that I do, you’re right. I have seen “Tomorrow Never Knows” called an early techno song. But as for “Revolution 9,” yeah, the same loops could be combined in sync with a beat and it could pass for techno.
I’m all for the avante-garde-ization of pop music, but I do wish “dance music” would incorporate some more interesting rhythms and time signatures. But maybe that’s just a reflection of my personal “spazz out” dance style. Spazzing out is just cooler when it’s in like, 23/4 or something.
