This was inspired by the Top 6 Beatles song thread.
Everyone has trouble picking a top six, but can you pick out your least favorite?
I choose “Hold Me Tight” on With The Beatles. It just seems poorly written and kind of annoying. It is obviously one of their unpopular songs, so if you want to put your least favorite of their popular songs, that is okay, too.
(BTW, I actually like “All Together Now,” but I won’t be offended if you put that.)
“Birthday”, or whatever the hell its called. You know, the one that sounds like they are just slamming their instruments, and caterwauling some gibberish, yet Classic Rock stations feel compelled to play it anytime anyone even slightly famous is celebrating a birthday.
After reading the Abbey Road Diaries, I really, really wanted to hear two songs: “What’s The New Mary Jane” and “Guilty.” The latter song went through over a hundred takes and was never released. Granted, many of the takes were only for a few seconds, but I was really curious about that song.
During the N*****r era, I finally got my chance.
One listen to each was enough. You’re missing nothing by not hearing them.
As for their published material, a lot of the White Album can be given a miss, especially “Number 9.”
Listening to “Honey Pie” is like taking a cheese grater to your brain. The Pixies did, however, do a fairly cool cover of it…if you’re into that kind of thing…
Michelle, which seems to be a favorite least favorite around here. The awfulness of this song is unbelievable. The only saving grace it has is that the insipid lyrics are in French.
Definitely “Within You Without You”. I hate most of the stuff that makes heavy use of sitar, but this one is especially bad because it’s surrounded by all of the other excellent Sgt. Pepper tunes. Sticks out like a sore thumb.
