I’ve always noticed a large number of Spanish comments on Beatles Youtube videos.
Hey, I understand the impact and cultural significance of the Beatles and they’re undoubtedly my favourite band of all time, but why the Spanish connection?
Are the comments from Spain, or from Latin America? And, due to their overwhelming popularity why aren’t there equivalent comments from, I don’t know, Russia, of China, or France, or Germany?
Why the Spanish folks?
WAG:
Huge Latin American and Spanish fandom even to this day, of course. But more practically, Latin American internet users are very likely to be on the English-language channels because of their closer links (as much as they may hate to admit it) to USA and the far, far greater availability of material vs. Spanish-language channels; and they post their material to English language channels as well to get more visibility.
And FWIW I have run into such videos with a large batch of Russian and German comments, as well. Part of it has to do with the way the awareness of the video propagates, once someone in a particular user population begins sharing and linking. Some Beatles fan in Argentina (hello, Mafalda) spots a good one and begins sharing it with others who also comment and share and before you know it half the comments for that one clip are in Spanish.
I even got to download a full-length Let It Be Spanish-subtitled movie some years ago.
I can’t tell if this was shot in 1979 or last week.
Any idea?
That is hilarious.
