Beatrix (Canadian citizen) finally allowed to return from Texas

Sweet story here.

Beatrix is a peregrine falcon who was forced down during migration by a fierce storm in the spring near a Texas highway, and injured her wings and feet. After a lot of international cooperation, Beatrix – born in Winnipeg – flew back to Toronto and thence home. Not on her own, but on the wings of American Airlines and Westjet. Really cute photos of the falcon at the link, and also a pic of her AA ticket from Dallas to Toronto reading “Falcon/Beatrix” and “Docs OK”, meaning she had her international travel papers. She had surgery on her feet and her wing is healing and she’ll be released into the wild when’s she’s fully recovered.

These birds do have such sweet faces. I think it’s the eyes.

Well, I wish her a quick and complete recovery!

Saw a Cooper’s hawk catch and eat a sparrow in my suburban backyard today. Birds of prey are amazing to watch.

What a beautiful bird, and so calm considering her surroundings. Probably very well fed while in rehab.

Good God, with pupils like that, no wonder they can see well!

She’s a darling.

Still, since last time I checked birds can fly where they will, scoffing at borders and ignoring county lines, I can’t begin to imagine why she needed 4 permits to get back home.
Sounds like executive overreach.
