Beautiful Women are Coming to Nigeria! Let's Riot!

Kind of, but there is no equivalent to a Bishop in Islam. There is no church hierarchy. Doctrine usually comes from one scholar or another.

Well, I see that there is now a very good statement condemning the fatwa from the Supreme Islamic Council in Nigeria, which is very encouraging indeed.

It also seems that a more complete apology came from the paper and the journalist. Hopefully, this will calm things down quite a bit.

No you say hatred and imply that I’ve got a problem with you in general. I don’t.

I have a problem with what you said on the first page (the bit I quoted) of this thread and called you on it.

Last time I saw someone posting a list of terrorist activities commited by muslims (Many of which are somewhat coincidental, btw), I posted a larger list of terrorist activities by non-muslims, which even happened to be in a much shorter time span. Maybe I should do the same again? Heck, I could probably supply a similar list of actions by non-muslims without even going back a decade.

If you want, check out my list here. The post is about halfway down (Sorry, don’t know how to link directly to a thread). If you count the individual attacks, then I’ve already supplied more than your whole list here, even counting the somewhat debatable palistine/israeli events.

Your point was?

My point was that too many people, for whatever reason, go entirely out of their way to argue that Islam has NOTHING to do with terrorism, when in fact it clearly does.

QUOTE]Muslim extremists went on a rampage in several northern Nigerian states on January 9, attacking Christians and church buildings reportedly because of a lunar eclipse. The attacks took place in Adamawa, Yobe, Sokoto and Borno states, where Muslim mobs harassed and attacked Christians, destroyed church buildings, and vandalized Christian properties. Eyewitnesses said the mobs claimed that the lunar eclipse occurred because of the sins of non-Muslims, particularly Christians.

Anybody remember this? Happened about 2 years ago.

A link to another news source CNN had it for a while, but I can’t find it now.

How anyone anywhere in the world can be this ignorant in the 21st century baffles me. Un-fucking-believable.

The BBC has a link to it as well:

Sounds like the sort of thing you would see in the 1800’s. Just another one for the files…just like this:

Hmmmm…sounds like things are pretty fucked up on all accounts, and Islam is being used as a scapegoat for some more serious, deeper problems of Entire Country Fucked Up Beyond Recognition.

Nope. Many terrorists do have something to do with Islam, but that doesn’t mean Islam is a deciding factor in it. Especially since there are many more terrorist actions taken up by non-muslim groups. By your reasoning, every religion can be considered as endorsing of terrorism as Islam, because terrorists come from all religions. Fanatics are fanatics, regardless of what it is they’re following.

Achille Lauro was carried out by the PLF, a splinter group off the PLO. I’ll spell this out, because you may not know: PLO stands for Palestine Liberation Organisation. Palestine is an area of land and the PLO and PLF are fighting for what they see as it’s liberation.

Pan Am 103 was very probably blown up by Libyan terrorists. Kaddafi being a total loon, just what his thinking was we will never know. But one of his major concerns is, as I understand it, his perception that America supports oppression of Palestinians. See above.

The Pearl killing and 9/11 were directed at Americans (and in the former case, a Jew). Americans and Jews are singled out because of Israel, and American bases in Saudi.

But your point is that these attacks were carried out by Islamic fundies, and in relation to the latter three attacks I concede that the terrorists themselves would say that they were carrying out their attacks in the name of their religion.

What really drives them is a bit hard to say, but to suggest that their behaviour impunes Islam as a whole is illogical.

Their are billions of people of all religions out there, Islam definitely included, who do not do violence in the name of their religion. There are a handful of people of those same religions who do. The logical conclusion is that religion is therefore not the deciding factor. The deciding factor is that the terrorists are motivated by something other than their religion.

But, I hear you say, the terrorists themselves say they are doing what they do in the name of their religion.

So what? Fundies do everything in the name of their religion. If they build a football stadium, or prepare a meal or have a child or whatever, they do it for God, or Allah, or the appropriate Hindu deity or whatever. Does that mean that their religion is particularly in favour of football? No, it just means that the people want a new stadium, and since they invoke religion in everything they do, they invoke their religion in that respect also.

Below are some of the preachings by Government sponsored clerics that go on in some mosques in the Arab world. I have not heard of any riots started by Christians or Jews anywhere in the world as a result of this:
Falwell whom is not affiliated with the government said he though muhhamad was a terrorist and as a result riots did break out in Pakistan.
I shudder to think what would happen if the word jew or christian was replaced with the word muslim below.
