I’ve had it. 3 days of riots in Nigeria over the cartoons. 35 (non-muslims) confirmed dead, some set on fire, 30 churches burned down as well as western-associated hotels. Others have counted 50 dead in one city. Not a fucking peep from the NYT and most other MSMs. Now it’s Monday and the Christians decide to fight back and this is what we get from the AP:

MSM? What makes this funny is that from a public health perspective, MSM means men who have sex with men (we use this term since not all men who engage in same-sex partnering self-identify as homosexual). What does MSM mean in the sense it is being used here?
Except that I’m an atheist. I definitely don’t think the media is out to get Christians, but I do believe they do their best avoid mentioning that instances of violence are associated with Islam.

OK. Before we start rioting and burning stuff down ourselves, can we inquire just who you think is spinning what? Who in the US benefits from (supposedly) concealing Muslim wrath against Danish cartoons in Nigeria? Just what conspiracy do you think is taking place here?
A more reasonable hypothesis would be that the press has rather adequately covered the uproar over the Danish cartoons and that and while the riots in Nigeria continue the trend, it’s not * new * news. And, not to put too fine a point on it, but it is Nigeria – a country that’s far away and has few trading or cultural ties with the US.
As near as I can tell, the AP article you cited contained a full description of the events that took place, at least compared to other reports I’ve seen on the net. And the description of events was sufficiently horrific that it doesn’t appear that any coverup is taking place.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’m willing to be outraged just as soon as you point out what there is to be outraged about.
I assumed the enlightened participants in this forum knew what it meant. But, like a fish doesn’t realize it’s in water, you probably don’t realize that there is any other media besides mainstream.

The anti-Christian riots happened on Saturday. You’d therefore expect to see them on the homepage on either late Saturday Sunday, or Monday. Any later than that (such as today, Tuesday), and you’d probably have to search for the article.
The anti-Muslim riots happened early Tuesday morning. Since they happened today, they are currently the top story.
