Because if I wait, i'll forget - the MMP

That would have been fun. I had hoped that by using English for ‘coffee’ and ‘hot water’ she would have figured it out. Nope.

Sadly, I’m not surprised Lancia. My idiot BIL is nearly as bad. It probably won’t help, but a lot of people on both sides do that sort of thing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people speak in spanish about me. Whenever possible I look them straight in the eye and then make a remark or two in spanish, myself.

Still, it’s not fun to have your enthusiasm and openness stomped on. That never ceases to shock and appall (and I become embarrassed to be white, for some reason).

Don’t give up practicing outside of class. After a while there will be many many more positive experiences!

thank you fiat, but the artist in this case is shortdrum. It arrived via USPS. I’m just showing it off. Apparently, when she finished it, it told her it belonged to me.

By hanging out in geeky message boards and getting support from faceless strangers they’ve never met who, nonetheless, care very much about them?

Why didn’t you take the lids off and show her the contents?

When she looked at me and repeated herself, I kept up my Spanish just to see what the outcome would be, hoping that she would get the clues. I used ‘hot water’ and ‘coffee’ in English on purpose. When the other woman made the ‘beaner’ comment, I knew I just had to leave. Fuck it. Revealing myself at that point would have likely just started a fight.

Hugs to all. Time is flying and I’m so far behind. I almost didn’t come to class tonight. I already gave my presentation so I’m just going to work on my grocery list during class and then run out the door to go shopping when class is over.

phouka, I’m so sorry you’re going through all this.

ARGH!

Doctor-wrangling is driving me batty!

The doc I saw a couple weeks ago for a surgical consult said I should have a fusion. I then found out, that my current health insurance has only recently decided to cover cervical disk replacements. I told his secretary this, and the next day, got a message that he was referring me over to another doc in the practice that does disk replacements.

Problem is - this new doc is popular. His very first available appointment is a month from today. I’m waiting to hear from his secretary if there’s any chance of moving this up. I just have to keep stressing that if any surgery is to be done, it absolutely must be done this year.

Why? We have decent insurance this year with United Healthcare. Next year, our one and only choice was Blue Cross. Blue Cross of North Carolina refuses to pay for disk replacements, calling them “investigational” despite being FDA-approved and covered by other major carriers. Ol’ Blue also does their best to deny coverage for old-style spinal fusions unless the person is paralyzed or has actually broken vertebrae. Get this though - Blue Cross does cover homeopathy. Imagine that - all the distilled water you want for a 20% co-pay.

Hugs for everybody with medical stuff. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed.

Leftovers from last night for dindin cause well, they’re there and I don’t wanna cook. Same thing may happen again tomorrow.

I’s tahrd.

Home, finally.

Some good news. No speeding ticket in the notorious Bowling Green, VA, speedtrap. But I still have to pay off the one I got from the last trip.

I’ve chewed lots of ass today. I think the mortgage company will get a nastygram via certified mail, not to chew more ass, but to put on paper the chewing already done to be put in my permanent record. I’m that mad.

Papa John is making dinner, and I foresee a long evening of checking my eyelids for pinholes.

Evenin’ all.

Having an odd day- just got a very strange complaining letter from the person who’s supposedly helping me with job hunting at the job centre- I’d just sent her a copy of my CV (we all call 'em that here, if yez think I’m being over posh), and got a very snarky email saying it was in the wrong font size, change it to 12 (which it already was), and the headings needed a space between them (in a section with only one heading), and a very snippy comment about ‘How do you expect them to reply to you, as you’ve put no contact details on?’ (I did actually hand in one years ago with no contact details on, but that was not this CV- which clearly features my address, email address and phone number). I’m hoping that reply was intended for someone else, 'cos none of it made any sense… Very odd.

I also had an email from my uncle- which was just a photo of some kid. I don’t even know which kid, it had no info on it at all, and that side of the family lives in Orztralia, and I’ve heard nothing from him since I visited nearly 4 years ago. It may have been one of his great-grandkids, but I have no idea which- I don’t even know how many he has for certain. Nor do I know where he got my email address from. All very confusing.

Managed to go out for the day today- bought myself a walkin’ stick, and it really helps. Went and indulged my seed habit a little (I’m a little obsessed with buying vegetable and flower seeds- and a local garden centre chain sells all their old stock for 50p a packet at the end of the season, though it’s all still well in date. I must have well over a hundred different varieties by now, all waiting for next growing season… I spend hours cataloging them whenever I feel miserable), and bought a few nice new fishies, which look to be settling in with the rest of the tetra shoal nicely.

Hugs to all who want one, especially phouka, hope you all have a lovely silly-date-day tomorrow!

I haven’t got anything, I just wanted to come in here and say:

Happy Birthday, GT!!!

For some strange reason I feel like making Jambalaya. But that would entail going back to the store for bell pepper and celery.
It’s a puzzlement.

Fiat, you shoulda switched to French.
BTW, what’s the Spanish word for bimbo?

Sara Lee is a bimbo, apparently.

That would explain why she can’t bake then.

The lasagne was quite yum, and I have 2 packages frozen for future meals. Yay for 3 meal recipes!

Daughter has gone and I’m about to log off and assume the knit position - I’m almost done with the afghan - yay!

And on that note, see ya tomorrow!!! *** MWAH!!!***

You have no idea how hard it is not to snicker every time I see a package of Bimbo on the shelf! No one’s ever been able to explain why I should buy a pre-toasted bag of bread. Practically everyone has a toaster, but mebbee it’s a throw back.

Whenever they have free toys I buy some snacks. So far I have a little Bimbo teddy bear, A tiny toy bag of pan dulce and an incredibly pimp Bimbo bakery truck. Envy me!

Bimbo doesn’t really translate and the closest one-word translation is a dirty word I’m not allowed to type.

Good news on the docs… The surgeon’s secretary called. I pled my case, and she was able to force-book me next week. She also said it shouldn’t be any problem for me to get worked on before the end of December. Yay! It’s been thirteen years since my neck was busted up - I may as well fight for something that should be better in the long run.

More good news - we’ve been wrangling paperwork and trying to herd people in the right direction for DH. He’s penciled in for his roux-en-y in mid-December. Another two weeks, and we’d have to run through the whole process again for the new insurance.

Wow! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I’ve had a nice day so far. Pretty mellow day at work and nice long lunch with my 3 closest work friends (special in itself because it’s hard enough to find a whole hour together and we managed 1 1/2). Yay!

Heh, fiat beat me to it. Bimbo in Mexico has nothing to do with airheads. I knew they were huge, but I didn’t realize they were the largest bakery in the world.

I don’t think there’s a common word for bimbo in Spanish. I’ll bet there are regional variations. I’ll bet Nava can tell us…

Weird CV story, Fil. Hope it was just misdirected commentary (maybe she opened a wrong document?).

Hope everything goes well, kanga. I’d go with you, too, if you weren’t so far away. Like fiat said, a lot of times we imaginary friends can help fill in for the real ones.

That sounds truly annoying, Bobbio.

Am having some nice gussied up ramen noodle soup dor dinner (it’s some obscure Vietnamese brand that my brother likes). Have gotten calls from niece and naphew and dear ol’ Mom. Only one missing is brother.

How’s that green teapot, Ashes?

::ducks::

Really like the design, by the way.
Hugs all.

GT

I have nothing to say, just tagging myself

Spent most of the day in the ER, home now. Asthma attack, worst one ever. I read and had like, words and stuff, but they seem to be gone now.
