"Because of You" - How do you interpret this song?

I always thought it was about an emotionally needy mother leaning on her child for support, and projecting all of her own fears onto the child.

This is actually fairly close to my interpretation. My mother even admitted, when I was an adult, that she let her own fears affect how she raised me.
