Garter snakes have been discovered to be venomous. Fortunately, it is not toxic to humans.
We’ve decided it was a grass snake
.
As in: snake-in-the-grass!
It was a kiss-my-ass snake.
Glad it wasn’t a snow snake.
Why? You ask?..they crawl up your ass and freeze you to death
Wow, WTF??!!
You alarm me @Bullitt
What!!?
@Beckdawrek, it was that snow snake description that had my eyes popping open.
Sounds not too pleasant.
Old joke, my Daddy used to tell.
Of course we had snake-pocolypse last year.
Besides little Kermit(the green snakes name) I’ve seen very few snakes this year.
So glad with the kids and extra snake-bait…erm… .I mean Chihuahuas around.
When my children were young they actually swam in the pond. Almost daily throughout the warm months. I never worried about snakes. I worried more about water safety.
Now-a-days I wouldn’t wade out ankle deep. I’ve seen loads of cotton-mouths swimming on the surface. I’ve also seen snakes under the dock. I check carefully everytime I walk out on it.
I owned a couple of caught in the wild gopher snakes and was nipped a time or two it usually involved in feeding time shenanigans
One where I dropped dinner in and instead of the usual premeal chase the meal seen said snake squeaked and dropped dead of a heart attack (apparently its a somewhat common reaction by rodents )
all reptile knew was he smelled dinner and was coming over to eat
well I was told ta the time that wasn’t a good thing and to remove the deceased rodent as soon as possible
so when snake went to grab dinner he grabbed me instead and it only took a sec for him to realize that wasn’t what he wanted and he coiled up in a corner hissing rather perturbed …
the second was where the other snake’s dinner decided to fight back and took a couple of nips of reptile before being eaten and I had to make sure it wasn’t bleeding …and touched the bite and he nipped me in an Ouch that hurted sort of way … and then dispatched rodent with more violence than usual …
they didn’t feel any worse than when our cat bit me but it did itch for a bit …
@Beckdawrek, your Daddy had a special sense of humor.
Yep. He had a million of 'em.
I used to catch garter snakes up at the cottage to show my daughter (who liked them). Once I was able to catch a large blacksnake, about 3-4’ long. It promptly coiled itself around my arm and daughter decided she wasn’t going to hold this one, but we were both impressed by how absolutely glass-smooth its belly scales were.
I saw a huge black snake on the outside of the chicken coop. Since I only got 3 eggs this morning, I assume he ate his fill.
Thieving bastard.
I let the ‘hobo’ chickens out and they ran around the coop and started worrying the snake. Dumb birds.
Heed warning! Sneaky Snake drinks root beer!

As the bold and fearless Dionysius of his era, I’m sure Cecil has heard “bite me” many times. This may be the first time it was a sincere invitation, however.
I turned over a feed pan tonight and saw this:Black widow
I wasn’t bitten. I flipped it back and let her be.

Gahh!!?!
So, was you ever bit by a dead bee?
Does a dead wasp count?Bees don’t bite
