Well, that’s the marketing theory, but I haven’t yet heard from someone that said ‘I paid $600 for a block of foam and my butt is now kissing the boxprings’.
I say this only because I have an Akai TV that cost $1200 at the same time the identical Samsung sold for $1600…which originally debuted at $3200. Exact same TV, just a different sticker on the front.
Unintentionally Blank, I see what you are getting at. I meant that you should avoid the low-end foam mattress, and spend the extra for a mid- or high-end model. I am sure there are deals (and ripoffs) to be had in those categories, but I do not know enough about the various brands and manufacturers to offer any useful advice. Whenever I hear someone complain about foam mattresses, they invariably bought a super-cheap model.
BTW, I did not mean to imply that you, specifically, would leave an unusually large depression.
Oh, I’d leave a large impresson (6’6", 250 lbs), so no I’m not offended (I actually thought it was a pretty funny statement.)
My frustration is at the relative opaqueness of the mattress industry. They’re obviously not all made alike, and 300 lbs of latex (woof! that’s a lotta rubber!) can’t be cheap, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of consumer assistance and knowledge for something everybody uses everyday.
Long story short, we bought a Tempur-pedic Rhapsody, and when the salesman realized we had a limit, weren’t going to go over it, and weren’t going to incur any additional debt, then suddenly we got a ‘friends and family discount’.
We get it Friday, here’s hopin it’s all we’ve been led to expect!
