When my son was younger, he got a DS and it took him about a day to drop it and break the hinge. Even though the screen on the 2DS is exposed, I think the hinge on the 3DS represents a more significant breaking point. (Also, you can buy protective cases – the old DS went into a Nerf case which many people seemed to buy because it held a hinge-broken DS together nicely)
That said, he’s 17 now and has had a 3DS for a couple years that’s still in one piece so it’s not as though they’re made out of fairy crystal. Just something to consider for your daughter.
That makes good sense actually. Ok 3ds for me, but not for the little one. So I’ll see if I can find that Mario Cart bundle mentioned up thread. That sounds like a solid deal. Then I figure out how not to get my wife to kill me for adding $70 to the budget.
I don’t have one, but I would expect it to be more durable than say, the average smartphone or tablet display. How many of those have you destroyed? This is certainly not to say that the internet isn’t full of people saying “Hlep, I broke the screen on my 2DS!” but it’s definitely going to be less endangered by dropping than the 3DS.
I’m probably not that bad really. I just have a bad habit of wearing my stuff out before it’s life span should logically end. Got the wife on board with the 2d but not the 3d so I guess that makes my choice. Still it looks like they will play most of the same games.
If you’re interested in old-school NES games, Nintendo is coming out with the “NES Classic Edition” mini-console in November with 30 NES games built in, costs $60.
