“It felt good to not wear pantyhose”, maybe? No?
Nasal cancer isn’t uncommon in dogs with longer snouts, and Golden Retrievers have a higher incidence of cancer than a lot of other breeds, so it’s possible it had to have surgery for this reason.
Also, I knew a greyhound that had half a nose. When he was a pup on the farm, an owl tried to carry him off!
I’ve been through Manhattan on a dog with no nose,
And I’ve been drinking gin through a hose.
In Manhattan, you can remember your name,
If your name is, “Hey, Bastard, get the fuck out of the way!”
La la la la la la la, la la la la la…
Bwa-hahahahahaha!
Technically speaking, shouldn’t that go “Bwa-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha, ha-ha”?
That totally made my day.
This is exactly why, from now on, animals should be bred with handles. Makes the job easier.
“Been through Manhattan on a dog with no nose
The poor old bastard can’t smell a rose
In Manhattan, almost anything goes
But I can’t stop staring at the dog with no nose
La laa laaaa la la la laa . . .”
I hesitate to put this in a thread that has evolved as so humorous,
and I warn you that the images in the link below are extremely graphic in terms of animal cruelty/mistreatment (mostly starvation), but you may be interested and appalled to know that, according to the rescue operation, there’s a tradition in some parts of Spain of cutting off the nose of a greyhound (or “galgos”) in the belief that it will make the dog run faster.
I discovered this in the course of my greyhound rescue research. (I plan to adopt one later this year.)
Anyway, I warn you again that the images of mistreated greyhounds in the pictures on this site are very disturbing. (The good (?) news is that these dogs were photographed as they entered a rescue - so these are the lucky ones!)
Here’s the site, if you’re interested in learning more. Page down to the bottom for the reference & images of dogs with missing noses.
