Beer at home: use a glass or right out of the can/bottle?

When I drink beer at home it ALWAYS goes into a proper glass. Beer in a can is NOT an option. Out of the bottle … only if that was thrown in my hand when I arrive at a party.

I never use a glass, except sometimes when I buy a 40oz. of Old English Fine Malt Liquor and I get tired of lifting the bottle.

Honestly, I never, if I had fancy “pounders” I would. BTW & FYI, it’s called a pounder cause it’s 16 oz.

Here’s my favorite beer. The brewery is so close I can smell the hops. mmm…beer… http://www.redhook.com

Last time I bought canned beer was over a year ago, and it was payment to a friend for helping me move some stuff. It’s bottles for me. The only time I pour it into something else to drink it is when I’m going to the pool, where glass containers aren’t allowed, or in a restaurant if they provide a chilled glass (feels wrong to let it go to waste).

Oh, just remembered that I have bought cans of Fosters and Red Elephant more recently - didn’t remember them because it was just one can at a time.

Out of the bottle/can - almost everywhere. The only times I drink out of a glass are at big group parties or at fairly formal events. The large size bottles/cans (some as big as 2l.) in use for such events are a bit unweildy, even for me, and glasses (not mugs) are inevitably tiny.
(what an appropriate thread for my 100th post)

As a homebrewer myself, this begs the question: What do you like in a beer?

Beer - from bottle, glass, can - whatever.

Wine - from bottle, glass, can(?) - whatever.

Vodka - from bottle, glass, can - whatever.

Do you see a pattern emerging here.

ya, ya, I posted earlier.

The Belgiums have taken beer to a plane far higher than most ordinary mortals can comprehend. They have thousands of different beers in a tiny little country.

A helluva lot of those thousands of beers have their own special glass. Seriously, it’s incredibly anal, but there ya go. One must have the proper Belgium beer glass to enjoy a proper Belgium beer. Now, I personally think that a helluva lot of the Belgium beers like Delerium Tremens and Guillitine taste like cat piss, but some are just superlative such as Chimay Red. AND Chimay Red should be drunk out of proper Chimay Red glass to truly excel.

Otherwise, I drink outta the bottle.

Pnuk Guy: “Wine - from bottle, glass, can(?) - whatever.” You forgot box.

I drink beer from bottles if it’s bottled, from a glass if it’s on tap. I don’t drink tinned beer.

Sorry, I’m taken (“phew”, thinks reprise), but I’ll wager you’ll like my brew - just place an order for what type of beer you like, and I’ll see what I can do.

Yeah, I’m up for a beer next week. I’m off Mondays and Saturdays, Sunday afternoons, and until 1pm on the other days.

When at home, I always use a glass. Over and above being civilized, I have read that smell is an important part of tasting something. The glass helps that.

When out at a bar, I will always order a long-necked bottle of beer-no glass. Long-necked beers are tolerable weapons. I like that in a beer.

The only time I DO use a glass is for canned beer that comes with widgets (Guinness, Murphy’s, e.g.) and the aforementioned Chimay-type Belgian beers.

I’m weird when it comes to pop, though … sugared types (regular Coke, Sprite, whatever) goes into a glass with lots of ice; diet pop I drink out of the container in which it was bottled.

I almost gave up beer for good after witnessing a former room-mate drink Ortliebs out of a can…but that’s irrelevant now.

Since I have 4 kids, all 37 of our glasses are usually festering in the dishwasher. Therefore, out of necessity, I enjoy my Corona or Killian’s Red right out of the bottle.

I tend to avoid canned beer. Tap preferred, otherwise bottles. Right from the bottle is fine, unless I remembered to stick the mug back in the freezer, in which case I use that.

If I just want to say I had "1 or 2" I use the stein my friend brought back from Germany. (OK, it's like 1.25l...)
I take it you agree with the (paraphrased) line I saw about light beer being like sex in a canoe - F***ing close to water?

Fogglethorpe - do they still MAKE Ortlieb’s? A friend used to drink that. Fit well in a college budget at $3.96 a case.
Motto: “Try Joe’s beer.” I thought it was STILL overpriced.

Lurker, it was app. 13 yrs ago that the Ortliebs incident occurred. I’m not sure if they still make it or not. I’m afraid to look for it when I go into my local adult beverage store.

Is there a movie on this flight?

AT HOME:

The only brews we buy in a can are Guinness, Beamish and Boddington’s, and they go into a glass.

If we’re drinking outside, bottled beer is drunk right from the bottle.

When drinking inside, if drinking beer with dinner and we’re at the table, we’ll use glasses. If we’re drinking beer while sitting on the sofa or at our computers - bottle all the way. The cats show less interest in the bottles and are less likely to cause a sudsy upset.

AT RESTAURANTS/BARS:

We’re almost always drinking something on tap, so in a glass. If they bring us bottles and glasses, we will use the glass.

It depends. Given my druthers, it will be out of a glass–I like to see what I’m drinking, especially if it’s something darker than a lager. Besides, some beers seem to be made to be poured; I find that they taste better if they have been.

But let’s face it: there are times when beer in a glass is impractical. If I’m working outside or something, and I’m offered a beer, then just bring the bottle or can. I’ll be just as happy.

If I drank beer, it would definately be straight out of the bottle.

Bottle if in the house
can - never ( chuck it in a glass )

Always right out of the can.
