Beer at home: use a glass or right out of the can/bottle?

When you drink a beer at home, do you drink it right out of the can/bottle, or do you use a glass? I usually drink right out of the can/bottle, but occasionally I’ll use a glass. It’s about 90-10.

Don’t care where, if it comes in a 12 oz bottle, that’s what I drink it out of. I know, it may seem gauche in restaurants, but I don’t see why I need to dirty a glass. It’s not like a good beer needs to breathe for a while or anything. If it’s a mildly carbonated beer, then it goes flat in a glass. And if the glass is not that clean, it messes with getting a good head. And a warm glass just doesn’t cut it.

Now, if you want to frost a glass, and use a proper beer glass with the matching beer, well then I’m in.

Also, if it’s a homebrew or has yeast/sediment on the bottom, then I’ll use a glass.

Depends on the kind of beer and why I’m drinking it. If I’m drinking it because I’m just thirsty, I will drink out of the bottle. If I’m drinking because I want the taste of the beer (usually better quality), I will pour it into a glass to enjoy it.

Yes.

Oh, was that a multiple choice question?

I won’t even drink coke out of a can let alone beer. I’m more then happy to drink beer out of a bottle however. For some reason I ususally end up pouring it into a mug or a beer glass.

Can, then stubby, and only if there’s really no other choice, out of a glass.

It depends on the situation. If I’m just hanging out with my friends, drinking some beers, I’ll use the can or bottle. If its more of a formal occasion, or at a restaraunt, I’ll use a glass.

If it’s something cheap, then straight from the can/bottle. If it’s good, then I’ll use a glass so I can smell it better. When I get beer from my local brewery then a glass is needed since drinking straight from a 3 liter plastic bottle can get messy.

Right out of the bottle. I would like to see the day when no one ever drinks canned beer.

Since I stopped homebrewing, then just out of the bottle.

I’m starting up homebrew again next week, so I’ll use glasses.

A word of advice: even if you never brew your own beer, go into a brewing supplies shop and buy some glass cleaner. NEVER use household detergents on a beer glass. That’s why beer on tap at the pub stays frothy, but beer poured at home always seems to lose its head.

To wash a beer glass properly, scrub it with a solution of water and glass washing concentrate, rinse it twice, but don’t dry it with a towel. Let it drain on a clean cloth or rack. Make sure it’s dry before use. You’ll have excellent beer after that.

I long for the day when everyone pours beer into a proper glass; when only quality beers exist. Of course, judging by the absolute piss that most people drink, I can’t really blame them for not using a glass. I can mock them for bad taste though

I stick to plastic bottles or cans (all homebrew) when at the beach, but that’s mostly a safety issue.

When the beer’s bottle conditioned, you have to pour it carefully into a glass, or you’ll stir up the yeast. Also, as kferr mentioned, you want to be able to smell a good beer, so you need a vessel with a large open top. Having gotten into the habit of pouring beer into a glass, that’s what I do for all beers, bottle fermented or not.

Except for draft and maybe homebrew, I don’t think I’ve ever drank a beer from a glass.

Straight out of the can/bottle. Always. I’m a classy laydee.

Straight out of the can/bottle for one reason: My IG can’t mooch sips from either. My better half uses a glass and has to constantly keep an eye on it to prevent him from getting sloshed.

TLD - I’ll marry the first person who can make an enjoyable home brew. I’m 41 and have yet to taste one of those "but you haven’t tasted MINE yet"s which didn’t leave me believing that cat’s piss was a preferable option.

BTW - still interested in catching up for a few coldies next week; I’ll take the keg, you can have all the glasses you want.

Canned beer goes into a glass. When I pay extra for longnecks, though, it’s 'cause I want to drink from the bottles.

If it’s in a bottle; no glass. If it’s in a can; always a glass. Something just doesn’t seem right about drinking beer from a can. The last ounce or two in particular.

I’d say it’s 80/20 which means 80% of the time I drink it from the vessel it came in. The only reason I indulge in a glass is that we got some excellent barware as wedding presents. It’s a shame not to use them now and then. But since I abhor the hand washing they require, they sit on the counter for weeks afterward. That’s why it’s only about 20% of the time.

Bottle. Out of the bottle as long as its ice cold. If its not, I put it in one of those mugs that have frozen shit inside them that you put in the freezer to keep cold. Know what I mean?
