Hehehe. The Onion, a distorting mirror which reflects humanity more accurately than reality.

I’d always heard it as “Beer and wine is fine, wine and beer is queer”, but either way my theory is that anyone who knocks back a load of wine and then moves onto beer is most likely on a bender, whereas having a few beers and then some wine is what you might do at a dinner party or other reasonably restrained social event.
