Bees Running Into Window

Our living room has three windows, about 3 x 4 feet each, and bees continually run into them. I probably hear the thud of a bee a couple times every half hour. Where do they think they’re going?

Is it really just random, in that they can’t see the window?

We don’t have any flowerboxes or anything particularly close to the windows on either side (I’m not sure if bees search for flowers by smell or sight). Nothing that would attract bees.

And, any tips for how to get them to stop?

Bees are primarily attracted by colors, from a distance. If you have something that is the color of the flower they might be looking for that is visible through your window, then that could be it.

The largest and most visible thing is a giant 4’ by 5’ photograph of the Bullet Cluster, providing evidence of dark matter. Perhaps they’re space-going bees.

The room is painted a light blue, so maybe that’s it.

Or they’re seeing the reflection of whatever is outside.

A “Beware of Window” sign in bee language might help. Might have to get out your dancing shoes.

It’s just bees hitting the outside of your house; why do you even need to bother stopping them?

As in the OP, I can hear them constantly hitting the window. You maybe wouldn’t think you can hear them, but you can.

Have they been allowed access through the windows before? Is the house maybe recently built?

I don’t know much about bees, but sounds like they’re trying to fly on a route that’s now blocked.

One impact, as you imply, is no big deal. But over time these impacts, each inconsequential on its own, will eventually move the house off of the owner’s lot.

Glue damping weights randomly all over the window so the glass doesn’t ring every time a bee hits it.

Bees can run now? I thought they pretty much flew everywhere.

It’s a sign that Covered in Bees! is coming to visit.

The house has been here since 1955. Maybe they’re really slow learners.

I think the soil has some elasticity to absorb, and reflect it.

That said glass isn’t notable for its elasticity, eventually those bees will wear a hole through your window.
