Hoping to get into PC gaming by the end of the year IF I’m able to get a graphics card this winter. I’ve had Bioshock in my possession forever. I have a pretty capable computer, with an HD monitor, (only HD anything I have at this point and probably for a long - long time, if at all). Times are tough though. My cat is sick, and I can wait on a new Graphics Card if need be. Any suggestions on affordable, yet awesome graphics cards you Dopers can think of, may be a big help.
Let’s say I do venture into PC gaming by the end of the year, where would you start? My game history is as follows:
When I was young, I remember playing a little Intellivision, and played Apple IIe for quite a while. Plus I LOVED arcades! I love classic games. Didn’t X Box live have a cool Pac-Man in HD? Would enjoy something like that, a classic, with some HD flare.
Then at the age of 6 and older, it’s been all about the “Big N” with; NES, SNES, GB, N64, GC, GBA, DS, and Wii. I guess one could say I’m a “fanboy”, but I really like other systems too, I just grew up with Nintendo, (not a ‘hater’). There are familiarities with their games that are not only nostalgic, but easy to understand right away. I play *MANY *3rd party games as well. I loved Okami, Boom Blox, Mega Man, RE4, Viewtiful Joe… don’t get me stared on **NES **and **SNES **3rd party game. Even more so with the Virtual Console.
Like I said, I have Bioshock. I was never into most shooter games, (3rd or 1st), but like Resident Evil 4, this looks like an exception to rule. Any feed back would be great. Is it difficult for instance? I don’t like most games that require more attention than usual, like WoW. I love **Mario Galaxy **platforming, Zelda adventure’s and puzzles, puzzel games along the lines of World of Goo, and Lemming.
Is SPORE any good? I was hyped about it until it came out, and there seemed to be mixed opinions about the game. **Spore **is one of the first “Sim” games I’ve had my eye on since SimCity 2000. I’m just not interested in games like **Animal Crossing **or The Sims. I guess because I’m trying to get a handle on my own life. But **Spore **seems to branch itself into many other game genre’s, it seemed broad enough for me to enjoy. Does the game master most/any of these genres?
Any more suggestions? Am I missing anything? Sorry about the lengthy post, just treading on new territory, and I want all the help I can get because it’s an expensive hobby.
Thanks guys and gals!!
