Being a Star Wars geek does NOT make me an LOTR geek! (Lame)

Hey waitaminnit! Y’all are talking as though Star Wars isn’t real!!!

…there are more than half a dozen people alive who remember all the words to the “Stonecutter Song?”

:0

Okay, I’ll bite.

What is the “stonecutter’s song” ?
I don’t own a TV and I’ve only seen about half-a-dozen Simpsons episodes.

chuckles A girl after my own heart.

Lessee here…

-31, and female

-Read LOTR Trilogy in 4th Grade and every other year or so since.

-Have 4 6-foot bookshelves filled with almost nothing but fantasy. Every Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffrey book written. The entire WoT series (for the love of god, RJ…) Damn near every Discworld book written, the complete Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Series, Marion Zimmer Bradley (may she rest in peace), Brooks, Dickson, Anthony…you name it…the smattering of non-fantasy books I own? Those would be authored by King and Koontz.

-Absolutely love the first Trilogy of Star Wars, have all the OLD action figures, the AT-AT, the chicken walker, the Ewok village, an X-Wing and of course, the Millenium Falcon, all safely packed away in my Mom’s basement. (though I cannot stand the new ones shudder)

-Have seen every single Star Trek movie multiple times (old generation AND new)

-My favorite movies are things like Legend, Labyrinth, The Last Unicorm, Clash of the Titans, Beastmaster, Krull. I’ve seen every one of these countless times. The Last Unicorn I know entirely by heart and have been known to recite along with the movie.

-Played D&D all thru high school, played White Wolf’s Vampire:The Masquerade a bit as a young adult (actually have the Fox series The Kindred on tape, sitting on top of my TV atm, no joke)

-Have not only the Summoner Geeks on my hard drive, but about 15 gigs of MST3K episodes I haven’t gotten around to burning to disc. And 3 gigs of NewsRadio episodes.

-Have subscriptions to 4 different computer gaming magazines, a 6 inch stack of computer game demos, and I beta test computer games, for free, for fun. Currently I’m a Team Lead in the Wish beta.

-Speaking of computers, I networked our house myself and built our house’s last two gaming rigs with the help of my fiance, who I met online 3 years ago…in EverQuest, where I have a 65 elemental planar mage, a 57 druid, a 42 rogue, a 34 shaman, a 31 SK, a 34 wizard, a 14 enchanter and 17 necro spread of two accounts. I two-box the druid and mage (trying to get the druid lvlled and flagged).

-Have a three thousand dollar Court costume, which I religiously wear to both the Scarborough Renaissance Faire in Dallas (season ticket holder) and our yearly trip to the Texas Renaissance Faire. Yes, I’m also a Rennie. Was even in the SCA for a year before I decided I didn’t really have the time for it. The site it’s hosted is down atm, or I’d post a pic of me in my costume.

So…does that make me the Alpha She-Geek?

climbs to the top of Geek Mountain and waits for another Alpha She-Geek to come try and push her off

Tams, actually, I was making a comment about fandom seperating itself. The whole Trekker-Trekkie thing is, god, thirty years old now. (We’re sane… we’re normal. Just like you. But those folks over there? They like to dress up like furry animals!)

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We dooooooo…We doooooo!

Just wanted to pipe in and say that I have never read a Tolkein book in my life, and Star Wars was always the end all be all when it came to my favorite movie(s). However LOTR has now taken top spot. Lucas has just made it too hard to keep loving the original trilogy when he keeps denying that he ever made a film called Star Wars (period) where Han shoots first, etc.

Being said, I also have 16 long boxes of comics in my laundry room and action figures in big plastic bins as well as displayed on top of my 51" tv to which I have my Nintendo and Playstation connected. I also own three different Weird Al t-shirts and all of his albums. I love ST:TNG (but don’t own the dvd’s.) And I work in IT. And you know what? I love my life.

The geeks shall inherit the earth, no matter what brand of geek.

I’m a Trekkie and/or Trekker (I differentiate only to keep the myth alive that we actually care about which we’re called) but am disinterested in Star Wars and pretty much hate Lord of the Rings and everything else fantasy flavored.

My geekiness comes from other areas than my forms of entertainment.

My God. I need to own this. I’m a Mage gamer myself, but I’ve only seen parts of The Kindred. Hrm…time for an eBay trip.

“Who controls the British Pound?
Who keeps the Metric system down?
We do! We do!”

Last I heard, the boxed VHS set of “Kindred: The Embraced” was still available. Contains at least one episode never aired on TV.

Wondered why the show got cancelled so fast, too. It wasn’t bad. Better than some stuff currently doing well on TV…

“Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!”

Can’t recall if this was the reason, or if this had occured afterwards off the top of my head, but the reason no one ever picked it up after Fox dropped it, was the actor who played Julian Luna died in a motorcycle wreck.

Since nobody’s answered in full: “The Stonecutter Song” is from an episode of The Simpsons where Homer joins a Masons-esque secret society. The song is a jolly riff, remarking on how the Stonecutters control the world and influence the acting career of Steve Guttenberg.

Patrick Stewart played their mysterious leader, Number One.
“It is now time for the Paddling of the Swollen Ass–with paddles.”

Lessee! A girl after my own heart!

Your bookshelf sounds like mine ::grins:: But if you haven’t read the Belgariad series by David and Leigh Eddings, put it on your shopping list. And I just started the 3rd book of the Riftwar series by Feist. Also a good read.

And the Simpsons rule. The Stonecutter episode is probably in my top 5 mainly due to the Stonecutter song and the fact that Patrick Stewart sings in it. /drool

I’ve been a Roger Zelazny fan since I read the Chronicles of Amber in 5th grade, and the Last Unicorn was one of his best works. The movie was beautiful.

I used to watch MST3k religiously til they took it off the air. Thanks for the reminder and I’m going to make a point of renting some of those again.

Great thread, btw. I don’t feel like such a geek anymore. Instead, I’m part of a large group of people who appreciate the good things in life. ::grins::

Tams

Correction ::it’s early in the morning for me:: Peter Beagle wrote The Last Unicorn, not Zelazny. Just trying to offset the next 20 posters who will point out that mistake.

Tams

Liked the Belgariad.
Liked the Malloreon.
Didn’t like the fact that they kept writing books about that same damn story, long after they’d milked it dry…

People out there remember the Stonecutter song. Daaaamn…
