Belle Isle Aquarium is 100!

The aquarium on Belle Isle is turning 100 this year!

For those of you who don’t know, Belle Isle is a small island in the Detroit River and home to the oldest continually operating public aquarium in the United States.

I can’t find the date it opened, but the year was 1904.

I gotta make sure I visit it this year.

My parents took me there many years ago. I don’t remember much about it, tho. I’ll have to go back there one of these days.

While it’s not as fancy as Chicago or Baltimore, it’s a nice little set up.

I used to work for a tropical fish store and it was cool to see the fish that I would sell at about 1 inch grown up to about 4 or 5 feet.
