I am not a fan of Broadway generally, although I am a great respecter of the talent and skill that Broadway musical theatre requires. I am exposed to it mostly during Kennedy Center honors presentations and things of that nature and I am always astonishedBy the skill, power, the clarity of Broadway singers. They expose the weakness of the singers we are usually hearing on the radio and singing competition shows etc.
But Ben Platt, in my opinion, is the best of the best. He’s the star of the politician on Netflix, and out Of nowhere during that series in the first season he was playing the piano and singing Joni Mitchell’s " River" and I was gob smacked. Just fucking gob smacked.
It’s now the second season, and they’ve given him a couple of opportunities to show off his skills with songs I have absolutely no familiarity withAnd again, gob smacked. He’s just flawless. Technically flawless emotionally flawless stylistically everything is just perfection… I have never heard a man maybe never heard a woman sings so perfectly so beautifully so clearly so emotionally and he’s just all that and many many many bags of chips.
I am very sad that it is highly unlikely they will ever put dear Evan Hansen on video so I will never see it and I really would like to see it along with the book of Mormon… He apparently starred in both.
Anyway if this sort of thing intrigues you check him out. He’s fucking great.
