And Gandhi had very little influence on Pakistan. The fact that it exists at all is proof of that.
I’d have said Jinnah, rather than Gandhi, who vehemently opposed partition. That said, I know yojimbo wouldn’t have posted that without reason, so perhaps there’s more to the story.
Maybe someone can clear this up for me: it seems there’s a big brouhaha about whether Bhutto died from the suicide bomb (as the government claims) or from being shot (as doctors initially claimed, and others still believe.) Why is it such a big deal which one actually caused her death, and what would the government gain from lying about it?

the big bruhaha is that the goverment just can’t say one thing and stick to it. also allegations of pressuring doctors, amoungst other things.
the theory being is that shot could be possible gov. plant, bomber could be possible terrorist org… figuring out which is which is the tough bit. (not sure who “the car” is in league with, if it turns out to be the sunroof.)
This evening’s news broadcasts* had two snippets of video, shot from different angles, covering the moments just before and at the assassination. What they show is a gunman in dark clothing who fired three shots (two rapid, a pause, then a third) from right next to the vehicle. Standing directly behind the shooter in the crowd just before the car arrived was a man in white clothing who is alleged to have been the suicide bomber.
Working together? Two separate assassination plots? No one in either broadcast was saying.

cnn was outlining that as well yest. they did the highlight circle thing so you could see who was moving when.
so many people wanted to kill her it would be difficult to say who did what, and when.
If nothing else, Pakistan should get a JFK-style conspiracy-theory cult/culture/cottage-industry out of this. Might live on for decades.
I cannot believe the two weren’t in cahoots. Though why they’d feel the need for two people to do one nasty, murderous job is odd.
Oh, that’s easy. If one fails, the other still might get her. Redundancy, you know, backup plans.
See for yourself. There were at least two involved – the guy shooting and the suicide bomber. Not going to speculate – as does the reporter – as to whether further involment was necessary…all the way up to Musharraf.
OTOH, I think this clip clearly proves that the official lever version of her death is pure grade AAA manure.
